And do they have the financials to back them up?

What sites do y'all use to screen prospective charities?

Little Angels Foundation.

Guy walked away from his career to build and provide free coffins to the families of children who die and cannot afford one to give them a proper burial.

His shop is south of BR, maybe in Gonzales?

St. Jude's...no kid should ever suffer. I know I can't stop it from happening, but hopefully I can at least make it a bit better.

Seeing one of their ads spawned this thread. Rudimentary research found that 50% go to direct programs. I really don't want that to be true

St. Jude's, or local charities that don't have a CEO making over 1 million a year.

St. Jude Children's Hospital is the only charity that we currently give to.

Honestly I prefer to give straight to people I know who have needs. I've known many churches and charities to give to shady people. I have a distant cousin who routinely has her rent paid by churches. I'm not blaming the churches because they think they are helping but I certainly don't want my money going to pay for (in my cousins case) a 40 year old who is too lazy to work and spends all her money on booze and cigs.
I gave directly to flood victims this year, and I give to people I know who have faced disasters. Cuts out the middleman. I do applaud everyone who gives to charities, if I do give to one, it's usually St Jude. Never Komen.

Charity Navigator

Has good reviews and breakdowns on how the money is spent at the charity.
