To sum up don't expect it to match Xbox or Playstation but it should outperform wii u.
Also it offers different clock speeds for docked vs handheld mode. There is no processing in the dock.

I hope so. Like pistol whipping a blind kid

This is kind of disappointing. I think everyone was hoping it would be more of a modified Tegra X2 but instead it looks like a Tegra X1 that's actually been modified to be even less powerful to conserve power.
Unless this thing becomes another fad like the Wii, I'm just not seeing why 3rd parties will support it outside of a few ports. I hope I'm wrong.

It will be interesting to see. The article says not to expect the big ports in switch. The question is can they support it on their own.

But those release trailers tho

Maybe. It is underclocked, but it is supposed to be a custom chip so it could have more cores than a stock X1.
If it is a bit slower, but has 50% more cores it could still be a solid performer.

I don't always post in these threads but watching the regulars defend Nintendo is always a good read. I wonder how this one will go.

They discussed that possibility in the article

quote:They possibly could if they were smart about it, at least for a little while. The rumor is that they've consolidated their console and handheld teams so that helps. They also, obviously have a vast catalog of older games from NES all the way to Gamecube (and maybe even DS and 3DS) that they should release at a steady clip but they haven't been good at doing that in the past. They instead opt to release old games at (seemingly) random times.
The question is can they support it on their own.

And God forbid they have a unified account where some of those virtual console purchases carry over

Well this killed my interest in the system. I was almost ready to hop on board.

If I can get 3ds level support on the switch you can just sign me up now. I don't even have to have Gamecube support - just give me 3ds support
It being underpowered is disappointing, but seriously the new ps4 and xbox1's are coming out soon with 4k support - the switch was already going to be behind with ports: I just want Third Party support so we can get some games that start on the Switch and then "maybe" move over to the other consoles.
If the Switch can get the same market share the 3ds has - it will draw 3rd parties over because of the money that could be had on it.

Great. They're going to screw this one up, too.

breath of the wild won't be a launch title...this one is pretty dumb as they went on fallon and let him demo the switch by playing breath of the wild and it's the focus of the reveal trailer
breath of the wild won't be a wii u title.
the specs are no different.
they'll showcase it next month, and then we can find out for ourselves. I don't really care so long as it's anywhere between ps3 and current gen stuff.

Eurogamer is a legit news source that has been on the nose so far. The wii u cancelation was a dumb rumor with no credible source.
