They are just jacking cars right on Canal at major intersections now. Damn.

quote:

Andre Satcher was arrested in connection to the shooting and shooting that were reported around 1:30 a.m. at North Rampart and Canal streets.

Investigators said an Uber driver picked up a woman at the Ritz-Carlton on Canal Street and the two were stopped at a red light when a man, who police say was Satcher, got out of a silver sedan with a gun in his hand. Satcher demanded that the Uber driver and the woman get out of the vehicle, police said. Detectives said that as the Uber driver got out, he grabbed his firearm from the door and began shooting.

New Orleans police said the gunfire struck a nearby bellman at the Ritz-Carlton, who suffered a gunshot wound to his hand.

The driver is allowed to shoot to protect his vehicle and occupants, and even if he hit the bellhop the criminal will be charged for it.

Just how if you have two burglars and you shoot and kill one, the other is charged for the death.

True Story.

The carjacker was going to leave his car there?

Maybe he just didn't get the concept of "ridesharing"

the guy likely got out of a car someone else was driving. The people that car jack ride around looking for easy targets

The restaurants are world class.
Your town is pitifully provincial.
You can get shot anywhere.
You ate at a chain restaurant last night.
Being shot is a small price to pay for authenticity.
Nothing to see here.
Look away, hillbilly.

I'm a big Nola advocate but that is an ugly story by any stretch. It's not commonplace for a car jacking on canal but it's ugly. The city has to figure out that pocket on canal by the theatres. There's a ton going in but the crowds around the bus stop etc... consistently have fights, shootings and various issues. It's one of the few downtown stretches (there through around the corresponding intersection on Tulane) that I always feel unsafe on foot

yeah, you wouldn't think you would be a victim of a carjacking outside of one of the nicer hotels in the city.

That's bc it's a bunch of hobos, thugs and basic lowest form of human life congregating in the dump of a city.

Last time I was there I felt for sorry for people that had to live among the trash that infests the place.
Call it "culture" all you want.
Place fricking sucks.
