Ok, since there is a new addition and we have had a year to evaluate and reevaluate TFA, let us make a new list...

Here is how I rank 'em...

Empire
Star Wars
Jedi/TFA (interchangeable)
Rogue One
RofS

TPM

AotC :yak:

***by the way, I loved RO....it might grow on me enough to see it as an evenly matched film with Jedi and TFA, but as of now I will give Jedi and TFA a slight nod.

Empire
A New Hope
RotS
RotJ
TFA

Rogue
TPM
AotC

Bold ones can be interchanged pretty freely.

I'll also note that TFA has an opportunity to move in front of or behind RotJ permanently depending on the next two and how some of the unexplained backstory may or may not get explained.

I'm gonna have to rewatch Rogue One but initial reaction
Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars
Rogue One
The Force Awakens
Return of the Jedi (Throne Room is peak Star Wars but the rest of the movie is so meh)

Revenge of the Sith

Phantom Menace

Attack of the Clones

I honestly just like to pretend the prequels didn't happen because of how much stuff it messed up.

I'll go to my grave arguing that TPM was worse than AOTC

I know right. You should protest how shitty they are by doing like that monk protesting the South Vietnamese government did and set yourself on fire. That would show them.

i can see that. I might agree with it just because of Jango Fett

I think its apparent the only movies that matter in these rankings are

Empire
A new hope
Jedi
Force Awakens
Rogue One

I agree with this. I reserve the right to love it more or retroactively hate it depending on how the next two turn out.

I don't see anyone passionately arguing one way or the other. They were both terrible.

artistically, it probably is. But I can watch TPM, it has some redeeming qualities. AOTC is such a lifeless film.

TPM doesn't have a protagonist

And, if you start watching from AOTC, the whole story is encapsulated. It literally has no reason to exist.

I think Empire still has the slight edge but it's closer now that Rogue One fixed the biggest flaw of Star Wars - the magic Death Star auto destruct port that the rebels found by glancing over the plans.
