More than 50,000 Americans died from drug overdoses last year, the most ever.
The disastrous tally has been pushed to new heights by soaring abuse of heroin and prescription painkillers, a class of drugs known as opioids.
Heroin deaths rose 23 percent in one year, to 12,989, slightly higher than the number of gun homicides, according to government data released Thursday.

Thanks Trump.
Is that the new thing?

Sad news for 50,000 families. That's a lot of parents burying their children.

It's such a tough problem. We Americans will get our dope, one way or the other. Via legal or illegal means.

It is amazing to me that this epidemic gets getting larger with drugs like suboxone out there.
BUT suboxone is so damn expensive that a heroin junkie has a hard time coming up with about $750 for a Dr visit and prescription every single month.

That's great news. The fewer degenerates in this country the better.

A lot of times its a junkie that got clean and then has a relapse and hits the same amounts they used to.

Preach. I have the unfortunate badge of sorrow from carrying my 30 year old cousin to his resting place when I was 25. H is a bitch.

Fixed it for them. Sweeping change has consequences. They took Vicodin and made it essentially as hard to get as Oxycontin. Making Oxycontin even more expensive.
Foolish policy. And you are talking to an ER nurse who loves telling drug seekers to frick off because our docs don't carry triplicates.

Were that only the case. My brother had a six figure income by the time he was 25 and was an accomplished and respected guy. Not to mention lovable. Then he had an accident, got hooked on opioids and died of an overdose. It wrecked my Mom and my brother's daughter, absolutely wrecked them. If only he was a cartoon "degenerate" instead of a guy I loved with all my heart.
It certainly would have been much easier had he been a "degenerate" instead of the older brother who saved and bought me a motorcycle for my 13th birthday and who was devoted to his grandparents and who went to LSU football games with me and who laughed at every lame joke I ever made.

Ok, this is conclusive proof that the War on Drugs kills more than it saves. The failure on heroin and opiates particularly means we need to reevaluate everything in the War on Drugs. That is simply inexcusable. 23% spike in deaths? What the shite?

You're heartless.

Stay classy. You know someone with an opiate addiction, probably much closer to home than you think. You'll re-evaluate your position once you're directly struck with this.
You're a total twat and should be ashamed.
