What kind of a human being would downvote that story? What a great read!

Good read, thanks.
You ever stop to think that maybe someone accidentally down voted while scrolling on their phone with their overweight thumb? I'm sure it happens.
I always get a laugh out of people that get so offended by a random down vote.

There is a YouTube compilation of kids meeting Mickey and other Disney characters for the first time that is a really enjoyable watch. makes you wish you worked there.

I'll chime in here to see how it is received. I may start my own thread. We just got back from Disney and it WAS incredible. Disney world in Florida btw. Observations. Good and bad.
1. Customer service is so good it is offputting. The "in character" thing is no joke. Saw a couple staff members get pissy but not bad.
2. The construction of the parks is second to none. It is unbelievable. I was sitting waiting for some family to finish shopping, when I realized the quality of the little random pissy chair I was sitting on. It must have weighed 30 lbs. the back was shaped like a butterfly. The Tree of Life is an engineering marvel. It looks like a tree but withstands Florida weather and hurricanes. The branches must be re-bar and I don't know what is used to attach the leaves. Every aspect of the 4 parks is over engineered. The welds on the stainless going along any handrail in magic Kingdom or Epcot.
3. Hardcore Disney fans. Saw more than one guy there. About my age and alone. Seemed creepy. But if I truly loved Disney lime that? Fah-q to anyone who would judge.
Anybody work for Disney or have family that does? I spoke to a handful of workers and they had differing opinions.

damn I normally don't give a damn about this kinda stuff but I got hit in the feels

Damn if that story doesn't make you tear up a bit, you're a colder motherfricker than I.
I love DisneyWorld for reasons just like this. So many of those folks work their arse off at those jobs as characters and other stuff (for lower pay than you realize), just for folks like that. Kids like that.
That was beautiful and very touching.

There are tunnels that is true. And the housing is true. The "cast" have the option to live in Disney housing. I was told $100 a week. $400 a month has to be great for Orlando but it is dorm style in that you WILL have 1 to 2 room mates. The girl giving us the scoop had gotten to a level of manager in the service departments. We spoke to her because she was waiting tables (off resort). she said she quit because she was tired of it, but did not regret it. One person in our group said "sounds like a cult" to which our waitress said, "EXACTLY!!" She made it sound like you get addicted to the place and all the good experiences. Probably not as over the top as the OP, but there are tons of opportunities to make a kids year or lifelong memory. I saw at least 3 "make a wish kids" while I was there.
But even everyday interactions with kids has to be enjoyable. I'm sure there are horror stories, but by and large everybody there is happy and ecstatic to be there.
The cost of admission is high enough to keep trolls at bay.

Went on a tour last year at Magic Kingdom where they let you into the main tunnels they use. Called through "Ultilidor" iirc. Very cool system they have there.
Honestly they run those parks better than some military installations I've been on

You walk up to a manager in slacks or a guy in all white picking up trash and you will probably get the answer you needed.
I was also amazed at how many pretty girls were doing crap jobs. Usually pretty girls get the better gigs in a service industry? Disney appears to make you pay your dues regardless of looks. I'm sure they climb faster in the organization, but pretty or no pretty, you may get handed a mop or broom.
In addition, the engineering involved to keep EVERYTHING out of sight is amazing. You see NOTHING under construction! It all has a green mesh screen. Also, you see nothing until you pay to see it. The Epcot ball/globe is behind trees. The minute you turn into the parking lot AFTER paying, BOOM there it is. As you drive down the highway it looks like the trees are sculpted to be just high enoug to block you view. Wanna see it? Pay Uncle Walt!
