Metteberger, a classic pro style QB led one of our most prolific offenses. A kid like Myles Brennan gives us a Mett with mobility. Why a total about face from what we only began to scratch the surface on in terms of success. Minor tweaks and a decent pro style QB produced records this season. Why not build on what was started post Miles/Cam?

Because when's the last time we beat Bama?

What type of teams have beaten them or actually point up points on their D?

Tell me, how many teams put up a goose egg against Bama at home this season??

I just want what is succesful in today's college football.

Watch it there. Etling isn't in Mett's league.

The obsession with this fan base of pro style vs dual threat is pathetic.

What LSU needs is a GOOD QB. That's it.

Etling proved to be a game manager.College football is changing it's time for an upgrade on the offensive side of the ball, starting with the QB position.

If Etling was a rFR and played like he did last yr then I would have a lot of hope however remember he started what 8 games prior to this at Purdue? I believe what you see is what you get in him. There really is no upside. Yes, he was the best option for us last year (but is that saying much?) I think it would be a disservice to not look other options including JUCO transfers for next years starting QB. If Etling wins the job again then fair enough but we have to do our due diligence.

Etling doesn't remind me of Mett at all aside from them both being white. I would say someone more like Flynn, but with slightly less arm talent and overall size.

Etling's arm strength is kind of concerning. He seems to love floating his throws that are over 10 yards.

Although, I suppose you could argue that he throws a more catchable ball than Harris like when he throws a screen pass 150 mph

Mett
1. Mett has an extremely strong arm
2. Mett passed for over 100 yards vs Bama
3. Mett led offense scored an offensive point vs Bama
4. Mett threw for over 3000 yards in a season
5. Mett was drafted in the NFL draft
6. Mett started an NFL game.

Etling
1. Etling does not have a strong harm
2. Etling did not pass for over 100 yards vs Bama
3. Etling led offense did not score an offensive point vs Bama
4. Etling did not throw for over 3000 yards. Or 2000
5. Etling will not be drafted in the NFL draft
6. Etling will never start an NFL game

They are both white though

We can argue back and forth about QB styles but this sentiment should be universally agreed upon in Tigerland...

Thank you Mr. Etling for transferring to LSU!

I would rather wildcat QB against Alabama rather than a serviceable pro style QB.

If Etling takes 1 snap against Alabama next year I will be watching the game from the ER.

he was 13-12 at Purdue and 6-3 as a starter at LSU this year with a stacked roster. Not really that much of an improvement IMO.

Shitty defenses produced records. We've been through the rodeo already. Not a single SEC team LSU beat under O was in the top 50 nationally in total defense. The highest ranked was actually Southern Miss, but i think we all know why. After that, Arkansas was 77th.

Ole Miss was 102, Missouri was 107. Not sure what they are now (possibly worse) but that was their rankings at the time LSU put the hurt on them. A&M was pretty far down the list too.

Don't assume just because Etling was serviceable that he is what lead to the offensive production.

People always say this. But 2013 wasn't all that great.

2013 with Mett, 35.8 ppg
2015 with Harris, 32.8 ppg.

So one of our supposedly "most prolific" offenses was just 3 ppg better than the year our HC almost got canned for having a terrible offense.

Moreover, 2013 we were 6th in conference in scoring. That's lower than when we had Andrew Hatch at QB in 2008.

Etling is a 3-4 loss QB in a full-season.

I think you should rethink posting this thread entirely.

I don't know why people on here act like Etling can't run the ball. He is a pretty strong and fairly fast runner when he takes off with the ball.

So a kid currently in high is as good as Meat and we'll set records with him?

No, what he actually reminded us of the difference a S E R V I C E A B L E QB can make. It's that we finally had a serviceable QB for the first time in quite a few years regardless of whether you want to classify him as a PRO STYLE QB OR A DUAL THREAT QB!

How you want to classify him doesn't mean jack shite. We just need to sign and develop GOOD QB'S not MEDIOCRE QB'S

I think Brennan and Narcissie both may fit that description.
