Dakota Access Pipeline Controversy

On one hand I can understand the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and their issue of it running under their water source and cutting through lands they consider sacred. On the other hand, Obama's decision to halt and force the US Army Corp Engineers to conduct further study could endanger the financial feasibility of a project that is 98% complete potentially consisting billions as it had to be completed by Jan. 1. It's unclear if Trump would have the authority to reverse the decision.

It's not tough at all. Tribal lands should be auctioned off to the higest bidder and the pipeline builders should be forced to obtain drilling rights through contract.
they should be able to defend their claim with lethal force if necessary.

Won't ruin the water and the sacred sites are on private property that already has the freedom to build there. The whole demonstration is a farce.

Didn't the tribe turn down the initial lease offering and then get mad when their much higher counter offer was rejected and the builder of the pipeline bypassed their land?

Yeah, the tribe just wanted a seat at the table...
They were dismissed and next thing you know, this.
If the companies and uncle sugar would've pulled up to the tribe with a couple truckloads of cash, this shite wouldn't have been about drinking water.

The problem is that when they were contacted in the beginning, the tribe didn't respond. It wasn't until they were ready to start building that they spoke up.

The tribe didn't get any of the $$$ for going over reservation lands so they turned it into a drinking water issue. That's all it really boils down to. The Tribe want to be involved in the permitting process and want a piece of the pie.

It's just another opportunity for white SJW types to get all upset about something they have no idea about. These people are the worst

Who currently holds title to those lands? I believe they are only held in trust buy the US government, while the tribes hold the titles. I also believe there is a law prohibiting selling of Indian lands to private citizens.

They should just dig a ditch and let all the libs cry into it if they are concerned about their water situation. There are enough tears to fill the Atlantic, I'm sure.

The whole protest is a joke. The pipeline isn't going to ruin their water source. Just an attention grabbing, money making scheme.

I love the environmental BS argument. Do most people realize how filthy these reservations are? Oil leaking from cars and heating tanks, hunting out of season and so on.

Eminent Domain. A few suffer for the greater good of the community/state/nation.
Its not a tough call. Build the pipeline.

Yup. In the end they just want more money to piss away on booze cigs and drugs.

DAP follows an existing pipeline route...

I'd side with the natives if the 'sacred land' wasn't bullshite. There have been plenty of historic surveys done and the land has no significance to the tribe other than as pr.

An Indian reservation is a legal designation for an area of land managed by a Native American tribe under the US Bureau of Indian Affairs, rather than the state governments of the United States in which they are physically located. Each of the 326[1] Indian reservations in the United States are associated with a particular Nation. Not all of the country's 567[3][4] recognized tribes have a reservation—some tribes have more than one reservation, some share reservations, while others have none. In addition, because of past land allotments, leading to some sales to non-Native Americans, some reservations are severely fragmented, with each piece of tribal, individual, and privately held land being a separate enclave. This jumble of private and public real estate creates significant administrative, political, and legal difficulties.[5]

Start with me? I dont live in the Dakotas so not sure your point. You sound like a whiner.
And my bad with the eminent domain. Its basically the case, but not exactly so I'll concede that point

I had a good laugh a couple of days ago watching the video of an Indian guy chastising the snowflakes who showed up and trashed the place - with trash.
Kinda ironic.
