Sideways football...
Not a fan...

That's what he does and he's not a fan of running the ball hence the leash that he's been on since he's been at Bama.

I completely agree. Think about bama vs Ohio st in playoff two years ago. All bama had to do is ride Henry but instead they tried to get cute and lost. KIFFIN

Why I think what we get at LSU with him WON'T be the same stuff we're seeing at bama. The best weapon he'll have coming in here is Guice and if he ignores him, the natives will be beyond restless.

I've said this and been down voted to hell. You are corrected IMO.

Good news for you then...Briles can gain a lot of momentum over the next week or so

Kiffin has many more skeletons than Briles.
Please anybody other than kiffin

I'm not a Kiffin or bust fan. But how many RBs from bama have won Heisman? I'm sure Guice will be used plenty if Kiffin gets job.

These type of post are Just plain ignorant. Two of the very best college coaches of our time are Pete Carroll and Nick Saban. Both wanted and Hired Kiffin to run their offenses. However, joe blow message board guy doesn't want him to run his team.
I think Briles would bring more value to lsu from a recruiting stand point. However, I'm not going to sit here and hope we don't get a guy that has been excellent at recruiting, developing an offense to suit the strength of his teams, and has won championships.
This line of thinking is baffling. Everyone was bitching that Alleva made a "emotional hire", however, not Hiring Kiffin would be based on "emotion". The Hypocrisy is astounding.

Kiffin is a good hire.
The problem is that he's a short term solution...and I don't think that's what's best for Orgeron here. He needs a guy that is going to commit to the program for 3-4 years. Making a short term splash hire just delays the problem.
If O goes out, performs a search, identifies and hires a quality OC, many of the questions about Orgeron go away. People will have more confidence because if he's able to do it once, he can do it again. And, that can be sold to recruits, fans, etc.
Hiring Kiffin doesn't give anyone confidence. If Kiffin is successful and the inevitable calls come from other schools, there will be plenty of concern about replacing him (like there is now).
Kiffin is not so good that Orgeron should pass at the optimal opportunity to set himself up for success.

Briles is the man. When all his qbs went down a couple of years ago he switched a wr on the fly and still was putting up 300+ yds a game.

You can say the same for any coordinator that comes in and is successful, they will get a shot at a head coaching position. This doesn't mean you don't hire them if they are available at the time. The question will be can Ed hire another quality OC to take his place if he does well. That is what all good head coaches who have success have to do.

The natives are already restless.

No you can't. You missed half of my point totally.
Orgeron didn't go do a search and land on Kiffin. Kiffin is an inner circle guy of Orgeron's. So while any OC that comes and is successful may ultimately leave, Orgeron proving that he is able to identify, recruit, and hire the right guy alleviates those concerns when that happens.
If he hires within his inner circle, there will be more uncertainty and anguish about a coordinator leaving.

The problem with Briles is that he is a potential threat to most head coaches he would have the opportunity to work for. Any fanbase he would go to would be calling for him as head coach just to keep him around, in a couple of years, if his offense does well.

so if someone on your inner circle happens to be one of the best in the business you shouldn't hire him?? because you didn't have to look hard enough?
solid logic, makes sense
on a side note, do you have a government job?

so you want to pass on one of the best, who happens to be in his inner circle, to show you he can hire someone that isn't in his inner circle even though that guy may not be as good as kiffin. got it!
You have to understand something. Ogeron's inner circle is pretty big. He's been on some of the best staff's in all of football for over 25 years. He can pull from Chaney, Sark, Kiffin, Mazzone, dan werner, freeze, Carmichael, marone, frank Wilson, etc.
you hire kiffin now, you don't worry about when he might leave. You cross that bridge when you come to it. What if he stays three, like at bama. In three years freeze may not be coaching at ole miss, sark may want out of bama, there will be another top o.c. that has emerged you can hire.
You get the best guy that can help you win today.
I don't regret Nick saban coming here for four years knowing he was going to eventually leave. Had we worried about the long term, then. We would have never had him nor would we have two of our n.c.'s.

It's not in Orgeron's best interest, nor the program.
Orgeron is under the microscope. He would be much better off if he was able to show that he was able to make an Aranda type hire on his own. If he did that, what would be a legitimate worry about having Orgeron at the helm? If he wants to succeed at LSU, he needs to show signs that he can manage this program and sustain success.
As it is, a significant number of fans at his own school question his ability to successfully manage the program. A significant number worry about where we will be in 2-3 years. Recruits will hear that. His greatest selling point right now, IMO, is that he has the budget and support to have the best coaching staff in the nation. And, if one leaves, he's going to bring in the top guy next. But, he has to show he can do that. So far, his staff is entirely what Miles brought to the program...and presumably his friend.
Plus, Kiffin is not the clear cut greatest OC out there. He's not head and shoulders above everyone else. And, he's probably the coordinator that's most likely to bolt for a job the soonest. Do you think a quality HC with a 1.5M+ budget for OC wouldn't be able to make as good a hire?

No. And, not that it matters, but it's highly likely that I'm smarter and more successful than you. If you want to disagree with my opinion, that's great. Have at it. But, pretending that you are superior to me professionally is pathetic and frankly wrong.
