So now are we of the mindset that out of conference games and strength of schedule are essentially irrelevant?
When looking at Conference Champ PSU vs 1 loss OSU, who won head to head. That should be the deciding factor.

The committee said from the very beginning they were going to weight conference champions because they did not want another Lsu/Bama fiasco.
People say this acting like Alabama wouldn't have made the playoff had it existed in 2011.

In the future Ohio State should just schedule like Baylor does since only conference matters.

If both teams had the same number of losses I absolutely agree 100% with you. The problem is PSU lost to Pitt who is 4th in their own division in the ACC and OSU beat Oklahoma, who is favored to win the Big 12

should be pedo state because they have 1 legit win

Zero shits given if Penn State gets screwed. They are a cult.

Y'all are forgetting one huge factor.... TV ratings.... OSU is a huge draw and will not be left out.....

quote:No they didn't win their conference. When you are talking about two teams from the same conference, no, out of conference does not matter especially when one team beat the other head to head. If you're talking about two similar conference champions (same record, etc.) then quality wins comes into play both in and out of conference.
Shouldn't we just put Pittsburgh in the playoffs?

Should a 8-5 conference champion go before a 11-1 non-conference-non-division winning team from the same division?

if Penn State wins by 20+ how do you keep them out?
Posted on 11/29/16 at 10:14 am to papalegba
Tell them not to lose by 39 or lose to an unranked team.

Ohio State won at Oklahoma, at Wisconsin, v Nebraska, v Michigan. Only lost at Penn State.
Penn State won v Ohio State and... Temple? and lost one game by 39 points
In fairness to those arguing for Penn State, their resume would also include a win over Wisconsin since the question is "if they beat Wisconsin".
Also, I don't see any reason to say Ohio State's win over Nebraska counts more than Penn State's over Iowa? Also, Penn State played Minnesota as well who is getting more Top25 votes than Temple.
Not saying that Ohio State's resume would still not be superior but it wouldn't be nearly as drastic a difference as your post suggests if Penn State adds a win over Wisconsin.

Who gets left out if PSU, Washington and Clemson all win this weekend?
I hate everything about Penn State, but they should get in over Ohio State if they win this weekend. They beat OSU head to head.
Plus, like someone says above, you're opening Pandora's box if you put in a team that didn't win its conference over a team that did, thus rendering OOC games completely pointless.

It gets a little bit less messy if Wisconsin wins because Ohio State beat Wisconsin.
It was a game that went to overtime, so very equally matched (and UW should have won in regulation), UW would be the conference champ, and the evaluation should (will?) be based on an entire season of work, not just one game.

With the X-factor being the weight placed on being a conf champ. Tough to know if being conf champ is enough to overcome another loss. Based on what they've said about weighting the conf championship, the argument could be made.
Also, I bet those OSU fans that were so excited Iowa beat Michigan are feeling pretty dumb right now.

OSU will have a win over what is probably going to be the B12 champ at their stadium. That's pretty huge. Not sure how much better that is than Wiscy's win over LSU. The one thing Wisconsin has going for them is that the two losses were tight. If PSU wins Saturday, that 39 point drubbing is a killer IMO.

D'oh, meant to say regulation. A little pee down the leg in the end.
