Which dog breed is right for me?

Family of 5 (kids from 4-11). Looking for:
-Family friendly dog (not really looking for a guard or watch dog).
-Obedient, but sweet and lovable
-Medium sized dog (around 40-60 pounds)
-Active (I'd like to run the dog)
-Have an average sized yard, but the dog would also come into the home.
-A little shedding is okay, but not looking for a Husky.
-I've heard some breeds are very destructive when they are bored. Obviously, I'd like to avoid that. The kids go to school and play sports. Both of us (parents) work. The dog would need to be okay with spending some time alone. But, we do have kids and spend a lot of time at the house. We'd of course take the dog to whatever events (sporting events and whenever the wife and I can sneak away to our local corner pub whenever we can).

A female will be about 60 pounds or so.

Not a boxer. I own two. They're destructive as hell when bored, especially when you only have 1. My 2 keep each other entertained so it keeps the boredom to a minimum. Otherwise they meet all your other criteria.

Australian Cattle dog or border collie

Go to shelter and find a puppy with lab breeding, lab as part of mix with any dog is good.
Our shelter puppy was aussie sheppard and choco lab mix.
she stayed in 45-50lb range, half the height of lab and is smart as a tack.

Standard Schnauzer
Fits all criteria with a no shed bonus.

You came to the right place.
Nobody here will be bias and tell you the breed of the dog they have.

Sorry you raised your dogs wrong
Mine is 5 now and I haven't had to fuss at him since he was about a year old... very well mannered dog
Hyper when I want him to be, relaxed when I want him to be
OP, you also can't go wrong with any type of retriever

Pug. Name it booger. They all look like boogers
It meets pretty much none of your criteria. I just want somebody to name a pug booger. I call my sister in law's pug booger and it pisses her off. I honestly don't know it's real name. He's a cool dog though
Real answer is a lab/golden retriever mix. Laid back like a golden retriever but still awesome like a lab.

Boxer
Kinda hyper, kids & dog will wear each other out
First 2-3 months are rough, it needs plenty of toys & chews
Mine has never tore anything up in the house other than destroying toys
LA Boxer rescue may have a younger one, worth looking into

border collie, very smart and sensational with kids.
You need a dog big enough to handle what kids can dish out, and a border collie is about as small as you can get to still have the right size.
