We passed on Herman for $6M. How is $3.5M for Orgeron not Overpaying?

So, for an extra $2.5M a year we could have had the hottest coaching name in college football. Instead, we pay Coach O $3.5M/yr and compensate by paying coordinators double what the top guys make? Doesn't that come out to roughly the same?
Does anyone think that we have as good a shot with the Orgeron deal as we would have if we paid for Herman?
Nothing about this deal makes sense.

Expensive DLine coach/recruiting coordinator

I didn't want O either but Herman has done nothing to warrant $6 million a year. Absurd

it does if you're going to spend your money on a big name basketball coach and some assistants
that's the ONLY upside here to a half-baked coaching search

If got 3.5 for beating 1 top 5 team 3 years ago
I think beating 2 this year is a bargain at 6

Bet O salary is lots lower than 3.5 and is loaded with bonuses for production. With the money they save basically they are going to give Aranda a hefty raise to keep him and have a large sum to pay for new oc.
We were never going to get Herman anyway once tx job opened

Would have to se the whole deal. I think 3.5 is too much on its face for sure.

It's a short-sighted business move. O's resume isn't worth 1.5. Not hiring Herman or any other proven head coach will end up costing significantly more than hiring Orgeron.

You assume Herman would have taken the job for 6M versus his agent using a 6M LSU offer to leverage Texas.

Herman wanted UT all along. UT alums leaked news of LSU talking to Herman to piss Herman off and spur action at Texas. Now they are both going to get what they wanted and Aleva comes out looking like a clown again.

You really that dumb son?
Explain to me how you think paying Orgeron $3.5M/yr is not overpaying.
Do you really believe any other team would choose a Orgeron and great coordinators for about $7M/yr over Herman and good to great coordinators for about $8M/yr?
Please enlighten me.

LSU is pioneering a change in CFB. Give a motivator/delegator the HC job for significantly less than others and hire the top offensive and defensive minds for top money and be able to retain them. LSU'S success moving forward will change everything about CFB coaching

He gets a million dollars for every SEC win at Ole Miss. Seems fair.

Herman wasn't coming here. We weren't going to be used as leverage for Herman to get the best deal out of TX.
This isn't complicated. We got fricked by Jimbo and Co, and weren't gonna let it happen again.
Coach O isn't the best head coach we could hire, but he basically has a "prove it" contract. LSU can get out whenever if they want.
When we realized we weren't getting our top candidates, this was the best for LSU at this time. If he fricks up, we'll get the next rising star.
