The administration might be over thinking this. We could have the future LSU head coach right under our noses.

Why not Dave Aranda?

I'd take him if Herman and Jimbo fall through

If only there was an example of a legit DC failing as a 1st time HC, then I'd understand the hesitation to lead the football program at a $100 million business...

We don't know.

I, personally, don't think he is qualified just yet for the LSU job.

He needs to do what Herman did and take a small HC job and prove what he can do before he gets handed a big HC job.

Alleva is to risk adverse, huh?

I have a bad feeling we are going to overpay a coach that will under perform.

Vandy said, "why not Derek Mason" a few years ago. The guy has proven himself to be an amazing defensive coordinator and strong X and O guy. However, as a head coach, he is hanging by a couple of wins this season. He hasn't turned out to be the next Franklin for them.

There are no guarantees that Aranda won't be great, but this isn't the place for him to figure that out. Hell, it would be hard to imagine a coordinator more prepared to take over a top tier P5 school than Kirby Smart, but he has struggled at times to fill those shoes. He seems to be getting it now, but that job was running him early in the season.

As much as I love Dave Aranda, he needs to at least go to a lower P5 program and prove himself before taking an SEC job.

I don't think he's ever been a head coach. Some say that his skill set and demeanor (quite, pensive) do not seem to match HC material.

Personally, I'd give him the job before Orgeron. But, it would be a risky move...a risk that LSU doesn't need to take.

The only two SEC coaches that I would pick over Aranda to lead the Tigers right now would be Saban (of course) and Sumlin (I just think Sumlin would do better at LSU than aTm). I know it sounds crazy but other than those two I'd rather Aranda.

What if Aranda became HC and O became DC.

Well, we won't have to worry about Aranda getting the HC potion now since we all know Jimbo will be the new LSU HC.

I understand why people are jumping on that train. The man is obviously very intelligent and knows the game. He has the look of a future star, whereever that may be. However, even Nick Saban couldn't will his way past Michigan at Michigan St when he was earlier in his career. He also wasn't consistent here, although he had to do a lot of re-building early on.

He needs time to work out his style and learn how to run a program. And this is assuming he even wants be a college head coach long-term. There are some who think he may want to move to the NFL at some point.

I love the guy, but can he recruit? Can he juggle all the aspects of being an SEC head coach? Does he even want to be a head coach -- he's getting paid great money as an assistant and his plate is a lot smaller than it would be if he was running a program.

Maybe maybe not. The fact that we don't know sorta is why he isn't getting as much of a look.

I think he is an Xs and Os genius. Idk how big of a recruiter he is (no chance to really prove himself) and I don't know if he is a big pep talk guy.

The players love him and he is centainly one of the better minds in football.
