It was illegal until last year. Reds have been fighting it tooth and nail based on "purity of marriage" for years. It's actually been illegal to be homosexual in certain states for years.
And it's an issue for people who want to get married and share their healthcare, hospital rights etc. This is big govt.

A couple of years ago, the superintendent of schools for the Beaverton school district came and gave a speech at Nike, where I work. I attended the meeting. After the speech, we broke up into discussion groups to provide feedback for the district. There were 8 people at my table.
The question that was asked was, “What should be the top priority for the school district in 2013/14?”
We decided to go around the table clockwise and let everyone answer. The first person to answer the question stood up (I guess because she was so proud of her answer), and said, “Diversity. I just love that my child goes to school with people who speak different languages than she does.” The next woman (who, I later figured out had come to the meeting with the first woman), echoed the thoughts of the first woman, saying something to the effect that we need to teach all of our children to treat others with kindness and we need to show them that by not using up any more of our natural resources than we need. At that point, I was considering leaving and moving back to Florida.
The next guy was a black man who said, “Are you guys crazy? I mean, I’m all for diversity and values, but I want my kids to get an education so they can go to a good college and get a job.” The rest of the people at the table reiterated what he said, and my faith in humanity was restored. It turns out that the first two ladies had their kids in the International School of Beaverton, which is a super liberal IB charter school that only has about 40 kids in each grade.
Not all people think the same way, or have the same priorities. A lot of these folks out their rioting in Portland put gay marriage ahead of the economy as an issue. That’s why they hate Trump. Trump doesn’t reassure them that he won’t appoint a judge that will reverse the Marriage Equality Act. These people could give to shits if the economy collapses.

Tell me when the last person was put in prison for being homosexual in the US.

Wrong. Look at the OP. Look at the words 'non issue.'

This is big govt
Adding additional departments to take on more oversight and control of the population is big government. Adding a law that makes certain acts illegal is not (necessarily) big government unless such laws need an expansion of bureaucracy to enforce them. Small government doesn't mean no government.

It's an issue to people who want to get married

Then what do you call it? Honest question. It just seems to me that people have their priorities on both sides and are willing to overlook the faults they have with the side that they are on. I am merely using this issue as an example because no one else is. I can find hypocrisies on either side

Then get married and stop bitching. No one is stopping you.

Oookkk. But my point is that it was illegal and now people are afraid that with a Rep govt in complete control they will overturn the ruling because they were against it to begin with.

OK, lemme splain it to ya. Big govt is taxes, environmental regulations, foreign aid, globalism, take over of 1/7th of the economy with the ACA, etc.
Gay marriage effects 1 out of 10 million people. We don't care. It's not a big govt issue. Hell, the gay people I know don't want to get married.
You don't know the difference between Big Govt and your local HOA.

I mean i get what you are saying, but for the government to legislate morality it is still overstepping it's bounds. Yes, it doesn't affect Everyone but that doesn't mean that it affects no one. I'm not saying that we should sacrifice the whole country for 1/10 of the pop, but i just think it shouldn't be a zero sum game in that regard. Why can't we have both?

Leftist dims want to transform Amerika. They don't share the desires of normal people.

1. The number of gays who want to get married does not = 1/10 of the population. It's more like 1/10,000.
2. We can have both. You do have both. You can marry Bruce. Why are you bitching?

If what you mean by that is that they want all American interests represented then i agree with you :)

You are right and it's the bitching that gets things moving on either side. If people want something to happen then they have the right to argue their point. I'm just going to reiterate the point that people do not want to see their liberties disappear because the people who are going to be in power didn't support it to begin with and have expressed their willingness to overturn such liberties

You're a lost cause. You have no power of critical thinking at all. I'm signing off and going downstairs to cook dinner. I'll leave you with one last example that a 3rd grader could understand.
Advocate: I demand that water be available to every household in this town. Water is essential! We cannot live without water. Anyone who is opposed to water wants to visit death and destruction upon us. Anyone who opposes water should be put in jail. Vote NOW for water!
Opponent: Uh, you have water.
Advocate: Hmmm? OK. Never mind.
Posted on 11/22/16 at 2:32 pm to Zach
To use your example... If said opponent expressed his wish to take your water away, which is the point that I'm making, then the "advocate's" battle is still not won.
And btw, let's not get into clean water being a right, because the CEO of Nestle has expressed his view that water is not a right. If he had his way, what then?
