Why do posters post science subjects on the PT?

Are they afraid of discussing the science topics beyond a group of people whose political ideology aligns with their own?
Somehow if a group of similar thinking agrees with them then they must be right?

I wouldn't consider it a safe space since it's typically done to avoid responses like "tree fiddy", "288", or "AIDS".

Typically because on the PT they sometimes actually discuss the topic.
When they used to be posted on here (and when they still are), it often times gets ignored, replies tend to be jokes/cracks, or a recommendation to post it on another board, be it the PT or an imaginary one.
The only time what you described cones into play is for stuff like AGW.

As much as I love the OT, I wouldn't exactly call the responses "scientific." People come here to talk shite for the most part and that's the fun of it. Some of the serious stuff kills my OT buzz
