Mankind has always had an interest in seeking new places. I look at it similar to when people had the resources to go out and seek new areas of the world. Right now, Mars is just the closes place in outer space, in which humans can possibly establish communities. We, as humans, are evolving with our brains and IMO this is just one way it is happening.

I'm sure there were many Europeans asking a similar question in the 15th and 16th centuries when the New World was discovered.

Because it's there.

We as a species are on a race against time. We have to find a new sun before this one burns out.

The idea is to colonize an almost completely uninhabitable planet by having humans live in artificial bubble style environs for 20,000 years while we terraform the planet to be kind of like earth.

Meanwhile, we have this planet that is going to continue to be perfectly suitable for humans over that time with a few timely cullings of the herd.

Well considering at least half of the country believes the crap billionaires w/ a vested interest in denying climate change are spewing, there's a good chance we're irrevocably damaging the environment so we'll probably need a new planet to destroy eventually.

Would be a great place for all the liberals to go. I'd donate to that.

but I am curious about the long term goals here.
The only way to prevent the extinction of our species is to push ourselves so far and widespread out into the cosmos that no singular event could destroy us all.

Mars ain't the kind of place to raise your kids
In fact it's cold as hell
And there's no one there to raise them if you did

Trump wants NASA to reach the outer limits of our solar system by 2100. So, keep an eye on it.
