if he cant hit any sat night we lose by alot. Gumps will stuff the run early and be in the WR's face for the first few series. If we can get some completions downfield then not good at all.I hope mr. etling was working on downfield throws with the extra week. He will be the reason we win or lose Sat. Night.

LSU QB Danny Etling has completed just three attempts of at least 20 yards through the air out of 18 tries.

Weren't they all for touchdowns?

vs State: 37 yard TD to Chark
vs Auburn: 32 yard completion to Jeter
vs Ole Miss: 40 yard TD to Chark

What would a reasonable % be?

I would say around 25 to 30% on deep passes.

Hit 1 of 4 or at least 1 of 3

Bama D can make a lot of QB's look very bad.
My guess is Etling throws at least 1 bad pick at some point.

If he really struggles or gets hit hard early in game does O give Harris a shot?

True, but his completion average is 12.7 yards per completion. I'll take the short to intermediate completions. That's where games are won.

Exactly!

Ya aint gonna beat Bama with a power running game & we aint a deep ball threat. We gonna have to dink & dunk em with short to intermediate passes which should open some running lanes.

Only at LSU is a 20 yard pass considered a deep pass .Most teams probably consider 30 yards or more a deep pass. I sure hope whoever gets the OC gig can change this mindset. Funny how we talked about rohan throwing for over 611 yards against bama in a game in the early 2000's. Wonder how many passes over 20 yards he completed that day. I guess i cant say to much josh reed probably caught a 10 yarder and toke it to the house a few times .

"3 for 18 looks even worse when you consider 1 of those 3 Ole Miss basically gave him a gift for that 1 TD leaving the WR uncovered and he just lobbed it up for an easy pitch and catch"

True, but he's also been very close on some other balls, including a couple that could have been caught and one - cannot recall the receiver - who appeared to give up on his route. So, I don't think you can discount the wide open one he hit but it's still not a good number. I would think something closer to 40% on those throws is what you're hoping for but have not seen numbers on that.

This has been my concern.

LSU Tigahs are going to do this. The stadium crowd, the want, the talent, the coaching will all converge to create the perfect storm for Bama. You may have concerns, but we can all agree there is a lot of talent on this LSU team. Coach Oeaux is not Les Miles. IMO Les Miles kept this machine throttled back because he was stubborn.

Bottom line. This team is destined for greatness. We will see this greatness begin to assert itself in the middle of the third quarter.

One Team - One Heartbeat.

Bayou Bengals - 24

Alabama - 21

Deep balls are about timing. He's gotten way better at downfield passing the more he's played with the 1's

Yea we need to pull a Les Miles & try to force what aint working!

Get the ball in our playmaker's hands one on one even if that one on one is only for 10-12 yds.

Ok so I just looked at video from those 4 SEC games and by my count, Etling completed 4 passes thrown 20 yards or more. ..that would be 22%. I'm considering GIF'ing them but I'm not sure yet if I want to do it.

He's been awful at deep passes, no other way around it. It's a major weakness of his passing game.

Very good at the short and intermediate timing throws. Cannot put a ball on point >30 yards to save his life.
yep. I'm still holding out on that it's mostly chemistry/timing with the WRs and that it will indeed work itself out. Hopefully by today... IF he has time Sat we sure could use several.

Completing a number of long passes behind the 'Bama secondary will go a long way to opening the lanes for LF7 and DG5.

When have I said that. I wouldn't be surprised if LSU won or lost. 2oo4 w, 2006 w, 2008 OT loss, 2010 w, 2012 last second loss, 2014 OT loss.

It will be a close game. Please pick bama.

He does not have timing down with his deep receivers. He tends to overthrow them. Look, what we need is a game manager. When Mettenberger played in 12 he used the intermediate to keep Bama off balance.
