geez. Not the discussion I was looking for here ... please move along.
Well, life is life, right?
You seem to have incorporated your moral objections into the argument.

Beyond Meat's veggie burgers. They're one of my favorites!
Nice. I'll have to try them. I'm cool with veggie burgers and tofu, but I don't really like the products that are supposed to be imitation meats. Like imitation chicken nuggets for example. But I can do vegan dishes.

not really
I'll answer for her. It usually comes down to two main ideas. 1-The meat industry's animal husbandry practices are not to their liking. 2-You can get all the proper nutritional intake you need without the meats. Its one of these or a combination of both.
The first part of those ideas is a losing battle that Tyson has been fighting for years. Like pointdog said earlier, the message has been controlled by one side and they have warped their argument so much that the people they have on their side will never jump back over.

Plants live. They grow and thrive and develop. How is the life of a plant any less valuable that the life of an animal?
No need to pile on the vegan. If she wants to debate animal husbandry, there is plenty on both sides to make a case for yourself.
But plants? Come on

Thanks jones for clearing that up! It's nice to see someone with an open perspective

Meat industry is rough right now...additives, steroids, etc
Fake meat is even worse. Most vegan meat has some nasty stuff in it. With that said, I do eat them sometimes.

I agree vegan meats aren't the healthiest option of being veg... arguably more healthy than meat but it would all depend on both burgers. But it helps people crossover (fake meats)... I try not to eat them too often. If it's a get together or something, that's usually when I go for the veggie burgers because it's easy and it's not a standout dish that will cause the chef too much trouble.

I really want to try the "Beyond Burger" that's getting a limited run.

Thanks jones for clearing that up!
I am genuinely curious

Yes, she did clarify it. She is vegan. She doesn't buy meat and doesn't support companies who kill animals. The plant comment you made was silly.

I think the Gardein Ultimate Beefless Burger is pretty good.
It's the package with a red top.

Shut the frick up and move along, loser.
You're trying way too hard to harass the poster because *gasp* they don't eat meat

Saying it was "silly" was being kind. It was stupid.

Also did not want to post unsettling videos on this forum..

The Beyond Burger that has only been released to Colorado, and recently in a few other states, will be available at the end of November at all Veggie Grill locations for anyone on the West Coast.
I hope someone posts a review on it before me...I would lol.

Tyson CEO says the future of protein may be meatless
As stated before, I definitely think this is a good move for Tyson
quote:
... protein consumption is growing around the world-and it continues to grow. It's not just hot in the US; it's hot everywhere, people want protein, so whether it's animal-based protein or plant-based protein, they have an appetite for it. Plant-based protein is growing almost, at this point, a little faster than animal-based, so I think the migration may continue in that direction."
quote:
In October 2016, the company bought a 5% stake in Beyond Meat, a Silicon Valley startup that makes plant-based beef and chicken primarily from pea protein (no real meat is involved)
quote:
December 2016, Hayes took over, and the company launched a venture capital fund worth $150 million that invests in startups developing meat alternatives.
quote:
The company faced some controversy in 2016 and early 2017 over allegations of price fixing and chicken abuse, but Hayes said it is committed to contributing to a sustainable food system
As stated before, I definitely think this is a good move for Tyson

I had the Beyond Burger about a month ago, btw. Dressed up with all the fixings, it tasted like a real burger! I may buy another package tomorrow. Getting hungry thinking about them.

Just to bump for an SEC connection, Beyond Meat's chicken strips are made using technology licensed from Mizzou researchers and as a part of the deal they brought their processing plant here to Columbia. Not sure about the burgers, but if you eat their chicken strips they're from Missouri
