Chirizo and eggs...

Literally in my Top 10 funniest comedies of all time.

I quote this movie weekly.

ETA: this movie is part of a group of comedies people have either never seen or forgotten from about basically the same year. I'd also include the Bill Murray directed Quick Change and Albert Brooks' Defending Your Life.

A mostly forgotten classic. The chemistry between Grodin and DeNiro is what makes the movie.

Also, to the audiences of the time, the rival bounty hunter was still the dorky, harmless detective from Beverly Hills Cop. That really added to the humor of it.

I saw it on a first date with a girl I grew up with right after it came out. We didn't date very long, but stayed good friends. She died of breast cancer 10 years ago. Seeing the picture from this movie makes me think of her laughing her arse off at it. I hadn't thought of her in a while...Thanks for posting it. Miss ya, Cathy. You were pretty freakin awesome.

Now, as for the movie...I loved the chemistry between DeNiro and Groden.

quote:

Jonathan Mardukas: You lied to me first!
Jack Walsh: What the - -YOU LIED TO ME FIRST!
Jonathan Mardukas: Yes! Yes. But you didn't know I was lying to you when you lied to me down by the river. So as far as you knew, you lied to me first!
Jack Walsh: How can I argue with this guy. I don't know what the frick he's talking about.

There's a great scene in the original Heartbreak Kid (1972), where Grodin is bluffing his way into getting Cybill Shepherd's college boyfriends to walk away from her. He goes into the same "Government Official" mode that he does in the "Litmus Configuration" scene in Midnight Run.

I love it too. I watched the whole thing earlier this month for the first time in a while. It's been showing at least one night a week on one of the Starz channels (comes on at 4:05 am tomorrow) and I've watched some of it every other night.

John Ashton as Marvin is really funny too.

Charles Grodin is great in this movie. I love it.

One of my favorite lines is when they're on the bus and Grodin is rambling on about all his phobias, DeNiro tells him something like, "if you don't shut the frick up, I'm going to give you Fistophobia!"
