found a 1/2 ton big horn Quad Cab 4 x 4 for 38k, salesman told me if I wait till December I can get it for 35k with an extra 3500 added to my trade in case I'm upside down.

You'll be driving a RAM. Convincing enough?

It's $38k. Shop hard enough and you can find a 3/4 ton 4x4 ram diesel for that price.

I have one. 30,000 flawless miles so far. Average 28 on the highway, but have seen low 30s.

If its close to being upside down, don't buy another, it's rarely a smart move.

I think Rams are the best looking trucks on the market right now, that's all I got.

Stay away from them. Lot of problems built into the design of that engine and they will cost you more than the truck is worth. The EGR system, fuel pump, massive blow-by crudding up the intake manifold, etc. Look up a video channel on YouTube, EcoDieselRam I think, they guy is a hot-shot hauler and bought one brand new. 140k replaced the engine and he was meticulous on maintenance and fluids used.

I have one for business. Travel round trip about 500 miles per week. It is not 4x4. Great truck. Rides good. I buy the oil change package from the local Chrysler dealership and they will sell me the gas burner package. $300 for 6 oil changes. Only problem we've had is the navigation system gets screwed when you have the Bluetooth on your phone working. It is a Laramie package. I really like the truck. And it's really good on fuel. 24-25 in town. Highway can do much better

Check the NADA value against what you owe to see where you are. No way I would trade a vehicle that i'm under.

A former used car salesman just told me there are numbers on the window sticker that if read in reverse will tell you the lowest they can sell that vehicle for. He claimed it's so every salesman can walk up and if they don't know the vehicle by memory a quick glance will give him his price point. Anything over that is what he would make.

That was used. Nit sure if true .. you take a picture of the window sticker?
