Serious question. Thinking about pursuing an MS (or potentially even a PhD) in computer science after working for a couple more years and saving a bit of money. Any SEC schools have a decent program? Would like to go at LSU again but I know some people in that program and I don't think it's particularly well-developed.

Just go to LSU. None of the SEC schools warrant out of state tuition.

I'm currently in the CSSE (computer science/software engineering) program at auburn. Get ready to do a lot of math.

Define "bit". They're not SEC, but if you can pony up the $, two top CS schools in great Southern towns are UT Austin and Ga Tech.

If you're serious, get your arse to Atlanta and go to GaTech

Not worth it unless the OP has a particular career in mind that absolutely requires a CS degree from a top tier school. You can do well in tech without even getting a CS degree...

looks like aTm is easily best in SEC, but B1G schools much better, literally everyone is better than any SEC school.

Is Georgia Tech really that good at CS? I've interviewed a couple of GT grads recently who were shockingly bad - so much so that we had a roundtable discussion about it after one of the interviews. For example, I would bring up design patterns, concurrency, various commonly used libraries, etc., and just get blank stares.

yes, but you have to remember, some one has to finish at the bottom half of the class.

Vanderbilt and Texas A&M have very solid programs. Why are you considering a PhD?

As others have pointed out, GaTech is perhaps the best school in South for MS. I would rank UF, followed by TxA&M, followed by Vandy/Auburn, if we are strictly talking about SEC.

I think TAMU has a good CS program, if you're into that sort of thing.

What are you trying to do with your degree? You have some particular job your looking at beyond being a standard issue coder somewhere?

I have a BS in CS from LSU. I hear the program isn't what it used to be 15 years ago when I got out.

For Computer Science, it isn't a SEC school but UAH (University of Alabama in Huntsville) has a great program. I advise looking into it at least.

If you live in Louisiana, consider LA Tech. They have a cyber engineering program that while is only 4 years old, it is very good.

They also boast some of the lowest student debt and best access to educational support.
