G'day LSU fans,

My mate and I are 2 Australians who are going to be in Baton Rouge next Saturday for the Ole Miss game. It's our first college football game/tailgating experience and we're pretty pumped. Any advice on how to go about this? Where to park, where to hang out before/after? We'll be driving a hire car from New Orleans up to the game.

Cheers everyone. Go Tigers!

Get out to campus as early as possible. Game is at 8PM, which is late af, but people will already be out there drinking by 8am... As long as you get out there before noon, you won't have any problem parking. Check the map on LSUs website to find free parking, but I would suggest the area by the law school. I would recommend getting out there by 11 at the latest though. Just go up to tailgates with people around your same age. If you tell them your story, and when they hear your accent, they will give you all the free drinks and food you can consume. People kind of set up tailgates everywhere, but the largest amount of people will be on the parade grounds... I would say go see Mike in his cage, but he passed away this week . You should still maybe check out his habitat and watch the team/band go down the hill before the game. Times of interest will be posted on the front page of TD... After the game, either go downtown (3rd street) if you don't mind driving/ubering or just walk to the north gates of campus and there are plenty of bars and places to eat.

It's a fair dinkum American experience.
Get there right after brekky. Park in the free lots. Do a walkabout on the campus.

Talk to people and let them know you are an Aussie here for your first game of American footie. It'll be our shout for the food and booze. Bloody Oath.
Maybe your accent will help you score with some local Sheilas.

This game is equivalent to the State of Origin match.

Enjoy.

Wear something Aussie and get a LSU cap or something Purple and Gold. Be careful drinking that early - most LSU tailgaters are professional drinkers - don't try to keep up with them. You will love it.

You are actually not the first Australian to come to an LSU game and post here prior. Here were 2 threads I could find, but I thought there was another more recent one.

The only two Aussies I've known would put me under the table even in my best years in college. Its like they're born drinking beer out of baby bottles.

You obviously have never been out drinking with an Aussie. Those guys know how.

Welcome mates.
