Man, I pulling for Shreveport. I really am but i'm looking at this quote:

quote:

Now with the vote, the city will bring the Barnwell building up to code using a $1.5 million bond issued by voters in 2011. Once that is complete, Planet Aqua Group will invest $2.8 million to improve the Barnwell and move its company headquarters to Shreveport.

and thinking to myself that $3M sounds like a lot of money but is more than likely a drop in the proverbial bucket.

For comparison, the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta cost nearly $300M to build. Obviously it's apples to oranges but it does provide a reference for how much it costs to run a truly successful aquarium that draws large numbers.

The Shreveport aquarium won't be nice enough to increase tourism numbers to the city but like y'all have stated will be good for local families.

It's a pretty neat place, but it needs some updating. The aquarium will be a nice addition.

It's coming. We have had massive flooding in that area like 3 times over the last 1.5 years, so...

They shut down the dog park a few years ago before the floods. So I don't how that relates. All Shreveport has going for it is casinos, they tried the red light district under the bridge and everything in there failed.

It's going to be small. It isn't that big of a building.

Sci-Port is refurbishing its current exhibits, and is opening a new museum within Sci-Port, which is a mini town that resembles Shreveport. There will be a Selbers brothers department store, Brookshires (hopefully modeled after Line Avenue Brookshires and not Kings Highway). Its going to be really cool.

I know, but clarifying might help the out-of-towners I guess.

Thats just not true. That may be our highest tourism function, but definitely not representative of the City. In the past few years, and in an effort to shift some of the focus away from oil and gas, Shreveport, through a number of entities both public and private, has become a hub for startup companies, mostly biotech and pharma. There is some pretty cool stuff coming along that is actually hiring people. You will not see the huge revenue like you see in other places, but its happening. Takes years to actually get to market, but the fact is, they ar ehiring really smart people.

Also, the cyber innovation center, although in Bossier, has brought some cool tech companies to downtown Shreveport, including Cyber Reef Solutions, which is an investment of the North Louisiana Angel Fund which is located in Shreveport.

SEClint -

How about if LSU stopped recruiting players from Shreveport Bossier area? What would the football team look like? All those players from U High go to Alabama. So you need Shreveport Bossier.

You are a sorry b!tch. Im from Houma and now live in Bossier. So going from the real south to the north, I can tell you Baton Rouge is the worst place in Louisiana, maybe only second to Monroe.

Take away LSU college life, and the city is nothing but Alton Sterling democrats.

Shreveport Bossier isn't perfect by any means, but its not Baton Rouge, and I'll take that.

That is a tough pill to swallow. If I understand the deal correctly, the City money was a one time deal and not ongoing. The aquarium is for-profit, which will be interesting. They based their numbers on Sci-Port's attendance since they are similar. I really hope it works, but I have my doubts about a for-profit aquarium.

There will be a non-profit aspect, which means they will be able to receive donations to keep some things going. This will be the corporate headquarters for this company, they will be opening similar aquariums in other cities.

The mayor said no to the dog park and they had to Sue and raise the funds for themselves.

I guess if you have no friends and no clue what is going on anywhere else in the Shreveport/Bossier area, yea that may be it. No fishing, no hunting, no skiing, no bike trails, no atv trails, no parks, no golf courses, no tennis courts, just frisbee golf.

Because they can't/won't police certain demographics down there. When it first opened, it was nice. A month later it looked like an outdoor version of Kokopelli's.

GTFO. I have lived both places and NorthEast Texas sucks arse. Baton Rouge and South LA are better off for your absence.

I just found out that SkyCoach was developed in Shreveport. I wonder if the NCAA will allow it's use in the future.

This is a really cool company. I'm not sure about the NCAA. Texas high schools also have limitations, but the NFL and other high schools have really helped this company. They already have revenue.
