Ecobee3 vs Nest in one story house.

Pulling the trigger in one of these this weekend, Which is better? I have no preference and will not be updating anything but the thermostat. There will be no smart vents. Thermostat is located in a central part of the house that nest will be able to learn. 2000 square feet. Will be pairing with a wink hub when the new one comes out.
Is this a Coke vs Pepsi type of thing?
What are the pros and cons of each?

I have a Nest and love it. It does what I bought it to do. Through my electricity company, I earn money back on my bill when I reduce my energy use during peak times so a smart thermostat was a no brainer. Nest was easy to set up and has worked great. I really think it's a Coke vs Pepsi issue

The remote sensors for the ecobee give it the advantage.

Any reason the ecobee3 is better than the nest?

Will the ecobee work with older systems that contain a gas furnace?

I would call and ask.
I sound like a broken record but that's one of the nice things about those Honeywells is they support freaking every HVAC system known to mankind out of the box.
You may have to change some codes directly on the unit initially but they were designed to work with anything.

Nest supports remote sensors?

Go with the ecobee 3. The remote sensors are awesome.
Also Nest doesn't support Apple HomeKit or Siri if you're into that sort of thing.

No, but Wink does, and they are cheaper than the ecobee sensors

I researched this a few months ago and everything I read pointed to ecobee

You won't regret it.
One of the things that impressed me was that the ecobee3 was able to detect that my system was low on freon. One the hot summer temperatures kicked up, my A/C was taking a little too long to hit the desired temperatures. I noticed it because I am fairly well versed in the HVAC world, but I hadn't had enough time to get some freon so it went a week or so like that. At one point the ecobee3 popped up a notice on the screen saying that the A/C was running too long to cool compared to the temperature outside the house (based on forecast data it gets), and that I should have my system serviced. It also sent me an email saying the same thing.
I have no idea if the other thermostats do that too because I haven't seen that listed as a feature anywhere. But it impressed me because the system was still hitting the desired temperature, but the thermostat still knew it wasn't performing like it should be.

I've got a Nest and 2 Ecobee 3's. I like the Nest better personally. The remote sensors for the Ecobees are not good at all in my experience, thus killing their advantage; to the point where I don't even use the remote sensors anymore.
The Nest app is also much simpler, nicer UI, and provides data in a much clearer presentation. If I did it all over, I'd go with 3 Nests rather than what I've got now. ...beware of users who just don't like products because they don't like them or their MO. IMHO you won't regret either...
ETA: the problem with my remote sensors is the temp readings were way too high compared to what the actual room temp was; by about 4 degrees. This made the AC run much longer than it actually needed to.
