Thanks for clarifying, I thought it was a different four.

I had as much or more as a kid. Plus, if you didn't do it, the principle would spank you.

I had a shitton of homework when I was in school and that was 20 years ago. Sad to see nothing has changed.

Most kids in Europe don't have homework.
This part isn't true, but yes, there are places where very little homework is the norm.

This is because there is an actual emphasis on education. US students are not required to master ANYTHING at more than the level of bare literacy to successfully complete the requisite 12 years of education.

I went to 6 or 7 different schools before graduating high school. The level of homework varies depending on the school

Would not have known that. I was always under the impression that Italians were lazy.

There is an emphasis placed on academic level. You have to take a test to advance in high school on the college track. If you don't score high enough you go to a type of trade school.
The US could take a page from this. Focus on what students do best or want to do rather than forcing students who can't or don't want to be on a college track.

Scooter riding thieves, I actually think they teach B&E in school over there. Two different houses and both were broken into, they even went through the sugar bowl to see if anything was hidden in there. Vespa (every kid has one) bandits, they ride by see if you have anything of value in your seat, ride up drop their buddy off, come back and do a hard stop in front of you while the buddy open the door/smashes the window and takes what you have, hops on the Vespas and they disappear in the sea of Vespas.

This was such a small joke but it may have been the funniest thing I've ever read on this site. I laughed till I cried

I love to rise in a summer morn,
When the birds sing on every tree;
The distant huntsman winds his horn,
And the skylark sings with me:
O what sweet company!
But to go to school in a summer morn, -
O it drives all joy away!
Under a cruel eye outworn,
The little ones spend the day
In sighing and dismay.
Ah then at times I drooping sit,
And spend many an anxious hour;
Nor in my book can I take delight,
Nor sit in learning's bower,
Worn through with the dreary shower.
How can the bird that is born for joy
Sit in a cage and sing?
How can a child, when fears annoy,
But droop his tender wing,
And forget his youthful spring!
O father and mother if buds are nipped,
And blossoms blown away;
And if the tender plants are stripped
Of their joy in the springing day,
By sorrow and care's dismay, -
How shall the summer arise in joy,
Or the summer fruits appear?
Or how shall we gather what griefs destroy,
Or bless the mellowing year,
When the blasts of winter appear?
When the birds sing on every tree;
The distant huntsman winds his horn,
And the skylark sings with me:

Italian kids go to school 11 months out of the year, US teachers would be piss with that schedule.
Teachers would love this because they would get paid more...or would you expect them to work the 2 extra months out of the kindness of their hearts?

Second. Older brother, straight A's as well, got slammed with it at this same grade level (same school). But nothing like this.
It may be compressed schedule due to time off from flooding.
