I really like the game but its ruthless!
Everyone single person Kills on sight. Even nudes will chase you and try to kill you! WTF??
I actually made a big mistake and I'm ashamed to admit it. I joined a small group of people that had a pretty decent sized base with code locked doors. I thought when you entered the code it was unlocked only for you (like when you have a key to a lock) but that wasn't the case at all and a few people got in and destroyed all the sleeping bags, killed everyone and stole everything! I was actually out farming materials and came back to discover my huge mess up.
It it weird that I feel awful about it and its been bothering me all night?
But I'll never tell them I was the one who let them in!

I have over 1000 hours in rust.
Great game, just in a weird state right now with the XP system which is why you see a lot of high hour players who have quit.
Regardless, being in alpha the game is constantly changing.
With the amount of in game hours i have, i still am learning tips and tricks to it. You will make mistakes, everyone does. Play and learn.
Everyone is kill on sight because you have alot of nakeds who love to make a water pipe shotgun run out and try to kill full geared players. Thus full geared players now just kill all nakeds

That's good to know!
I really don't mind the XP system. I can see why they implemented it. I think it beats running around farming blue print fragments.
And I find if you run around and pick up wood and stones off the ground, you gain LOTS of XP.
Southern686, do you have a clan that I can join? I promise to lock the doors back I learned my lesson!!

I use too, but since XP we have all quit. I started back on rust last night with some old friends and still dont know if i could start again with rust as my main game.

Yea, the XP system you either love it or totally hate it.
For us the total randomness of the BP system is what we loved. You never knew what you would get so you had to play with the cards you were dealt (trading ect.) It was just more of a sandbox during that time. According to the devs they will be changing it all pretty soon though.

See thats the thing. Not everyone plays to go end game. Some just want too run around a troll. Some don't farm they kill others for their loot. There are so many different play styles it will be hard for them to make everyone happy.
If you want a group go on reddit there is a subreddit for rust and subreddit called LFG (looking for group) there you can find a group to play with. Remember, rust was/is developed to play with a group. Playing solo is like playing hardcore mode. I'd also suggest sticking to community servers and low population servers while you learn the game.

it's hard to play as a main game, but i wouldnt mind jumping on to play every now and then if we had a group

I played a ton for a while. I always had more fun during a cycle if I played solo but made friends with my neighbors. The wipe cycles I played with a group or clan were always a lot more boring to me.

If I was still playing in my group I have all my hours with by all means I'd invite you. Iv maybe played 5-10 hours in the last 2 months. Since i'v been away the group has changed which has further discouraged me of playing.

Solo is hardcore mode, the devs have made it clear it was never intended to play solo but it can be done.
Plenty of new comers to the game on the LFG reddit looking to learn the game with others.
If you choose to solo it:
-start on low pop servers until you become better
-Play on freshly wiped servers when starting
-build away from everyone
-youtube solo base designs
-keep small risk for high reward
-make alliances & friends
-Accept that:you will die, you will lose stuff, the community can be toxic as hell

I got so damn mad lastnight 
I really hate that everyone KOS. I joined a small server and ran across several nice people, and even had one guy give me a metal hatchet and pickaxe. I had a ton of stone and wood and was about to head out and find a place to steak my claim and this sum bich came out the wood works with a cross bow.
I was so pissed I turned it off.

Try building a 1x2 with a bag near it ASAP. Just build it as you get materials. Don't try to farm up a ton of stuff then build it

Its hard to find a place away from everyone. Everywhere I go there are a ton of buildings. I guess I'm gonna have to wait for server wipe like you said to really get going.
