We need to make a splash hire to show that we are serious about being an elite program. Not content with second tier. Open the check book for jimbo or herman. And the backup plan should be Petrino. He's a turd but would run the score up on some folks.

There is maybe 1% chance that O will be the head coach next year. He might could follow the next one.

i dont think O is a candidate
now Aranda, should we strike out on 2-3 guys, could be a guy we go to.

You are out of your mind to think coach O will be the next head coach.. Great guy but he needs to be the DLine coach and recruiting coordinator. Should be Briles/Herman/Petrino

Charlie Strong? What has he done to warrant that comment?

If he recruited really well, that means he was really bad with Xs and Os. They won 3 SEC games in 3 years while he was there. He is a great D-line coach and recruiter and I think that's what he does best.

I think if coach O beats Bama and wins 6 games he will be hard to replace.

Coach O, with head coaching experience at Ole Miss and USC is not a candidate, but Aranda with ZERO HC experience is?
Sure... sounds legit.
ETA: I'm not on the Coach O for HC train in any way at all, just trying to point out some sad logic.

Guess ppl don't realize for one how shifty ole miss was when he got there. He had a lot go wrong his last yr there and the years that followed were very talented teams because of his recruitng. Also USC was in complete turmoil when he took over and went 6-2. If he does well to close the season out, keeps defensive staff together and hires a big time OC then I'm ok with it. He would be 2 mil a year cheaper than Herman or jimbo like hire which could go toward a big name Oc.

Ole Miss was not a disaster before Ed O got there. Ole Miss was a very competitive team. In fact, they almost won the SECW in 2003. They only lost out after a very close, hard-fought loss to us in Oxford in Eli's last home game. Ole Miss just went through one transition year after Eli left. The Chancellor and AD panicked, tried to force David Cutcliffe to make staff changes, and then fired him when he refused. It has taken them a decade to become relevant again after that mistake.

A big name OC to supplement and sub-standard HC is not a long term solution.

No bud. Love him as a position coach and great recruiter, but no.

No thanks. I'd rather not face NCAA sanctions in exchange for a mediocre head coach. Just having him on staff makes me nervous as it is.

Unless Coach O puts together a stellar run and somehow gets the team into a substantial postseason bowl, he will not be around to coach next year.

You know that no one will take you seriously here if you don't try to be objective. Until then you're just a piss poor excuse for a poster.

Orgeron as head coach at LSU just seems so right. I hope he runs the table and gets offered the HC gig at season's end. I wish the man all the success in the world.
