He has ZERO alligence to UH. It is an appointed position. He will not give up his money for that 60000 seat stadium. Dude is only a businessman.
He just dropped $20mil on thier shitty arse basketball program. Are you serious with this bullshite?
He has a vested interest in them being a powerhouse because he'll have his brand all over that program and on TV every week. Herman isn't leaving UH because of money. Fertitta will match any offer up to probably $8mil/year. Herman will leave because UH isn't in the big 12 or because he just wants to revitalize a struggling powerhouse.
ETA - For a point of reference, LSU Athletic's largest single donation from an individual was $20mil and it was willed to them after a donor's death. He just dropped that on thier fricking basketball program without blinking.

Like I said, there are a couple of LSU alumni who have that kind of money, one probably more. Now whether or not they want to spend it like he does is something else.

Has more to do with if LSU wants to win, not capability. Jimbo is a NC winning coach, you are buying a known quantity.
If some Houston oil + real estate guy decides to bankroll the Herman express, does LSU want to pay that much for a 3rd year coach? Houston may win by LSU not wanting to play
We also have to buy out Miles, buy out Houston, AND beat their offer to Herman. Houston just needs to outbid us so no matter what the price point is, it's cheaper for them.
Plus we tipped our hand to every program whose coach is a hot commodity. Now they have 2 1/2 months to throw the kitchen sink at their guy. Pay raise plus big buyout for the coach to back out of the contract.

It's not just $ Herman been wanting Lsu. He will get paid either way and is probably dreaming at night what he could do with our talent

Just to be clear - you think that the guy worth $2.5B who just put up $20M to help UH in their bid for a spot in the Big 12 wouldn't put up a bit more to protect his original investment? I'm not saying it's impossible, but it won't be as easy as some of you are making it sound.

The University of Houston won't be able to pay their football staff $8 million annually because it will be a public relations nightmare in Houston and the state of Texas. The big name behind UH and UH football is Tillman Fertita - the chairman of Landry's Restaurant - five years ago he was over-leveraged and on the verge of financial ruin... Big banks likely regarded him as to big to fail and he is an absolute golden boy today.

Why hasn't Houston ever spent money before now?
Bc they now think they have a coach that is their ticket to the Big 12.
Not saying money is everything but like they say "money talks and bullshite walks". If UH gets into the Big 12 and Fertitta writes a fat check, Herman may stay.

Keep smoking weed. It is t about being the Phil Knight of UH. Not enough asses in a COMMUTER SCHOOL. I have a kid there. I live here. Get it right even with the big 12, it doesn't change the fact that they are about 60 as compared to us at 160. They are 50th with the extra 20 mill in the list for budgets and we are 7th. Understand we have 102000 asses in the stands. That coach wants a big name program and UH isn't it.

For the guy saying Fertitta has no allegiance to UH, he went to UH. So that's something. And he just put his name on UH's basketball arena for a mere $20 million. (Another UH alum, John Moores, previously owned the Padres and donated $50+ million to UH in the '90s.)
Fertitta is on record as saying that money will not be the reason that Herman leaves UH. Obviously, LSU has several advantages over UH that might cause Herman to leave, regardless of the money. But money won't be the deciding factor.
And for those thinking that UT will never let UH in the Big 12, that's misguided; there is significant political pressure in Texas for UT to get UH in the conference. Not surprisingly, Fertitta is one of the largest donors to politicians in Texas.
If UH is left out of the Big 12, it seems almost certain Herman will be gone next year. If UH gets in the Big12, UH has a decent shot at keeping him. It's definitely any easier road to the playoff going through the Big 12 than the SEC, and Houston is one of the best recruiting areas in the country.

But LSU can also pay big $$$$ to the assistants and also give Herman the opportunity to compete in the best division in the best conference and play vs the best coach in the country. Depends on what accomplishments that Herman wants to have on his final resume' as a college FB coach.

This argument is so freakn dumb it's beyond words. One man cannot support an entire freakn program. UH doesn't pull in the money LSU does period. I don't care who he is he will not dump all his money into a program to bring it up to speed with LSU. He can't keep up with an entire league called the SEC. Everything about LSU is bigger and better. It will take a miracle to get UH where their dreams are for it to be. Can it happen yes will it happen this year, I highly doubt it. The big 12 will not take a risk like that bc they really bring nothing to the table. It hurts their biggest to be rival Texas actually. So until the big 12 actually needs them it's not going to happen period. Idk what y'all don't understand about this?
Now let me move onto USC. If they fire this guy it will be what the 4th or 5th guy in 10 years? Why would he want to go to that mess over there knowing LSU actually gives their coach a chance and will make him lots of money and very possible championship if he comes in and does what he's doing at UH. Saban won't be at bama for much longer so even if he does have trouble with him and beats him every once in a while, he won't have to put up with it long. He will out last Saban if he wins. Possibly even send him into early retirement. Saban can't handle a bad play much less a lose to LSU. Texas would look terrible firing Strong when Strong is turning things around there just terrible. Why would a top notch coach want to be at a place that fires coaches for turning things around?
LSU IMO makes the most sense. All this crap about west coast guy is nonsense, he has no ties here blah blah blah. Neither did Miles and you could go on and on with that list. Money won't be the issue I assure you if we think he's that good of a coach and want him and the feelings mutual the money will be there.
Basically what it comes down to is if Herman thinks it's the right place for him and if LSU thinks he's the guy. If so then we make an offer and bring in the next coach. If not then we look at the next best option. Looks like LSU is on top of things so I'm sure they have their own list and are on the phones now if not last year? GT

We can throw crazy money at Herman + Tiger stadium + SEC football + the flagship university in a football rich state + a fan base un matched.
I think we got Houston on this.

Tillman Fettita don't give a shite about oil prices. Your meal at Landry's will just go a few cents. LSU can still outbid Houston unless Ferttita or a few others go crazy.

UH is also moving up in the overall world. This was a JUCO not that long ago. They still have an impressive list of alums and are really well positioned for the future other than athletics.
