Specifically for white tail around LA/MS?
Field and stream poster I was reading mentioned 120's are all ya really need for white tail.
What's a good 7mm mag round for around here?

Hmmm. You struck me as a .243 shooter.

150 gr. Winchester Supreme Ballistic Silvertips
I run a M77 mk2 and the above are the tightest grouping factory rounds I've found for it.
Have killed a number of deer with it from 50 yards to over 200 and have never had to go more than 20' to find the deer.
Edited to fix- I was driving when I made the first post...hit the 4 instead of the 5 on the grains.

I shoot the 150 grn too but I may look at the 120. What's the benefit of the lighter round?

Are you reloading, or just buying 140's off the shelf?

I shoot either 140 or 150 grain barnes tsx.

More speed and flatter trajectory, you lose the mass of the 150gr though so overall knockdown power might be less, but who hunts with numbers.
Go with what shoots best.

Thanks. I'm gonna try these this season.
I have shots over 200 yds where I hunt.
How'd you set your zero? Dead on at 100 yds? Inch low?

Should be about an inch high, not low, for dead on at 200 and about 5.5 inches low at 300. This is based on the Hornady 139 grain SST. I would assume the ballistic tips are going to be pretty similar.

Nosler AccuBond 140 grains. Dead nuts zero at 200. Have yet to trail a deer hit properly with these bullets out of this rifle.

140 grain Accubond over 64.5 grains of IMR 4350.

With the advancement of bullet technology 9mm is all you really need.

Barnes TSX 160gr. They are handloads and I only use this gun to hunt large bean fields

Unless you're an extremely well practiced long range shooter, flattening trajectory with a 7 mag is a moot point. In the heaviest loads it's still plenty flat enough. I don't know the numbers by heart but I bet 2" high at 100 yards is only a hair low at 300. Most people have no business shooting at a deer that far.
I'd stick to heavier bullets 140gr and up. You're going to shoot a deer close, square in the shoulder, and that light bullet isn't going to exit. Too much speed and not enough arse.
If I was using a 7 mag, I would probably use nosler accubond, barns TSX, nosler partition (if they shot decent), or one of the Norma loads.

Remington Core Lokt 150 grain

Remington Core Lokt 150 grain has been the most accurate for my rifle. I have tried others but they kinda spray all around.
