New here, but I've long enjoyed LSU football. I have a serious question in regards to the Harris-Etling situation: If Etling couldn't get it done in the Big Ten, what makes some think he'll magically catch on in the SEC?

Sure, the SEC isn't as strong as it's been in the past, but the level of competition across the board is undeniable. I think Etling will be serviceable, but it's as if some think he's going to lead the team to the promised land. Let's not forget Les is ultimately at the controls, which will, to some extent, hamstring Etling.

I'd like to see Etling succeed, but expectations seem quite high for a kid who posted underwhelming numbers in a lesser conference.

Wash. Dry. Repeat.
Let's let the games play out and then evaluate his abilities as an SEC QB.

Because having hope is a better option than sulking.

He didn't have anywhere near the talent at Purdue as he has here.

When was the last time a QB 'got it done' at Purdue or at LSU other than 13 for that matter. We will find out soon enough

Some of his throws should have been caught.

Etling certainly doesn't walk on water but his leadership and passing accuracy was so much better than Harris last week it as amazing.

and you say he COULDN'T get it done in the big 10. that's hogwash and misleading as hell. here's the Fact:

he DIDN'T get it done at PURDUE as a true freshman and sophomore. you can't deny he has a better cast of player here at LSU (again, than Purdue).

you don't know LSU fans very well.

expectations are always high. I really don't get your conference comparisons. qb ing for the worst team in your conference as a true frosh is not the place to post overwhelming numbers.

Every game there are WRs wide open that BH would miss. If DE can simply find those and from what we've seen so far he can, then LSU will have viable passing offense.

Because sometimes QB's do better elsewhere. Might want to check it out.

Hey look... a Mich fan came here to pick our brains on our new starter at QB.

I'll bite.

The simple answer is that he is better than our old starter by far... so far.

Thus, optimism.

If you haven't noticed, LSU's QB situation has been quite subpar for a while now. Average QB play to you is relatively impressive to us at the moment. Seeing as Les has the best record as a HC at LSU with the worst QB development, we believe that average QB play will take us very far.

The answer is simple, Etling has the CHEST to make things happen and the rest of the team probably has the best talent in the country. The only unknown is how our coaches will approach this game.
