They are still learning the system and its not like we have been recruiting for his scheme. Several key players are learning a new position.

Is there a different way to tackle in the 3-4 that I'm unaware of?

I haven't seen that many missed tackles. I don't know what you are talking about.

So you haven't watched any of the games?

I like alot of things about him but I would change two things. One is we need to get more of a pass rush, the other is having our lb cover wr's

I have watched both.

Care to give us some examples?

I've seen a few, but nothing that raises too much concern.

Every play by the tight end in the Wisconsin game, for a few.

They missed tackles every play with the TE?

I'm going to need some proof of that

Well, one advantage of getting the ball to a 260 lb TE on the run is that he is probably going to destroy everything in his way that is under 200 lbs. I saw more blown coverage against him than missed tackles, though.

Still too early. Overall, defense has been ok so far this year given the position the shitastic offense puts them in. The scheme was once again, pretty simple last night with little to no moving around or blitzing.

Can't complain too much. Two games in and we've yet to give up 20+ like we did nearly every game last year.

Seems like breakdowns have been kept to a minimum for the most part for a team that just transitioned to entirely new defense it didn't recruit for. I mean we've given up 16 points and 13 points to 2 teams who clearly aren't offensively inept. Jax State is loaded with offensive talent (5 star RB, FCS player of the year at QB). Wisconsin has a strong run game which we contained. We shut down Jax State's ability to run the ball at RB, Jenkins pulled off a couple good runs at QB but overall didn't get much.

Just need a little improvement in pass protection and I think we're looking really good. Want to see Adams make a few more plays and Jackson step up his coverage some. Also want to see a few more tackles for loss happen, think we got 5 each in the first 2 games, would like to see that up towards 7-10 per game.

think he's just keeping it simple for the first few games. Making sure they have the base down before cutting them loose.

Defense has a secret playbook now as well

Too early to tell...I have not seen enough yet, but the two teams we have faced have been able to move the ball relatively easy.

They were definitely better at that in the second half.

Jury is still out. Need to give him some time to mold players into his scheme.

I'll say that the blown coverages were mostly not typical blown coverage. They were moments where the defense was actually in great position but have awful ball skills/awareness and get too aggressive going for a ball they had no business going for. Like a ball that's thrown 5-6 yards in front of them and they're going for an INT with nothing but air in front of them. Blown coverages in the past defenses had almost nobody there or struggling to stay up with the WR.

This is more positive to me. I can tell Aranda is coaching these guys up because you can tell everyone is in position to make plays. They just need to eliminate the mental mistakes. Going to be a good defense as it gets better this year. Already a huge improvement over Steele who had guys lost and confused.

This is the rant in a nutshell. No mention of possible praise for positive results, just talk of complaining about possible negative results.

I think the defense has looked okay so far. Early in the year with a new system. I'm willing to give the defense a few games to learn assignments and clean up tackling and coverage issues.

Aranda will get them going, in my opinion.

So far so good. I think a lot of our defensive players are a bit overrated.

I think Aranda has helped the defense play much better, but there were a few blown coverages last night.

They weren't as many blown coverages as poor attempts to make plays on the ball. Either this is a good thing they can learn from or it will be harmful. I'm more optimistic about it this early in the season. We are certainly witnessing the development of the defensive side of the ball.
