re: What really happened in the 2nd quarter?

Whatever was done in 2nd quarter is what is needed all the time. Consistently got the plays in quick. Lots of snaps with 7-10seconds left on play clock

First pass with the checkdowns to Williams tells you all you need to know. With Etling you have multiple reads... Both pre and post snap.
People cannot talk about Etling without shitting on BH or, even worse, completely making things up.
Would you like me to link Harris making multiple reads, moving in the pocket, checking down, throwing to the TE, etc. all from one game against Wisconsin?

I hope we stop the toss dive
I don't have a problem with the toss dive - but I do running it on 40% of our plays.

Is Etling that much better than Harris? He certainly looked more poised but it seems highly unlikely that he's a superstar and the coaching staff would deliberately start the lesser qb.
It's tells Miles has no clue. He can't evaluate talent if he thinks BH is the best player to play qb for the Tigers. When he makes a bad decision starting a player that isn't up to the task, he will not change, he keeps trying to force a round peg through a square hole.He did it with JL and JJ. The only reason he put DE in was he knew he would be out of a job if he didn't make a change.

Harris had a pick to blow last weeks chances and should have had another if jsu doesn't drop the over thrown te / under thrown wr.

Everyone knows what Harris is gonna do and everyone knows what Fournette is gonna do. As soon as those two were out of the game, Jacksonville State didn't know what was coming.
We were unpredictable for one quarter. But Les fixed that problem during half time.

This is what I told a buddy while watching the game. It doesn't matter if Etling actually does anything different than Harris or if he's any better, the point is that things simply went smoother when he came into the game. He provided a spark and all levels of play improved once he entered. Hopefully that continues if he continues as the starter.

I do believe this is how Miles thinks. All the passes right out of the gate had me thinking "Do they want him to fail?", then I thought "maybe Miles told Cam to do whatever he wants, and so he is doing so".
After seeing how juvenile Miles acted, I think my first impulse was right, and that is why he had so much egg on his face.

BH checks down but he checks slowly which comes off as indecisive. Brandon is also struggling with accuracy.

I swear in the 4th qtr I saw our QB look at his wrist play book thingy and call a play never looked at the sideline ?? And it worked

Do you really believe that?

How often have we called short passes over the last 3 years? Seems like almost never
There is almost always a short or intermediate route or 2 in every route tree. It seem Harris just doesn't progress through reads and checkdowns. He also can't seem to complete short passes.
The little inside screen that Etling threw, where his dropped his arm angle to get it past the defender, is something we have never seen out of Harris.

His throw was late on the int. Dupree had to stop but should still have fought for the play. He really needs to step up his game if he wants to go in the early rounds of the draft.

JSU prepared for Harris, when DE came in it through them off for a bit. They made adjustments and shut it down.

Yes.
And I'm not saying Harris didn't do it at all, I'm saying he doesn't do it consistently like we saw for 3 drives in a row in the second quarter.

You know how ridiculous that is, right?
Explain why Les looked so completely whipped at his half time interview.
You would think that he would have had a smile on his face and a spring in his stride off the field.
The original question of the thread, did you notice the enthusiasm of the entire team. That probably had some influence on the route running and blocking.

Man I have to disagree here. We didn't spread the field once we jumped up by two scores.
Posted on 9/11/16 at 9:20 am to GumboPot
Yep. But the problem is BH doesn't set his feet towards the check. When you go thru your reads, your feet should move with your eyes. If not, you throw with bad foundation and passes go off target. Sound familiar? The announcers even made comments about that.
Can it 've corrected? Sure. 3 yrs later? No

Little side arm action. I liked it. Got the ball to him quick and easy to catch.
