It's a non-conference home game. It'll be 80:20 run to pass ration as it always has been the past decade with these kinds of games.

Just like the last non-conference home game against WKU where Harris threw for 286 yards and 3 TDs?

I don't feel like looking it up, but how many times since Les got here have we thrown it 50 times? Maybe a handful of times in 12 years. He'll probably open up throwing on the first couple of possessions just to quiet the boo birds and be able to say later that he did. Then it's right back to the toss dive for the rest of the game. I'd say total pass attempts in the 20-24 range.

If LSU was up 21-0 at half, Les would sit on that all game and get out of there. However you look at schools like Ohio St and FSU and Bama and they are out here scoring 50,60, even 70 pts on these jokers. They use these games to fine tune and use all 60 minutes.

Not sure if you remember or not, but they have tried this before. It doesn't work. They still can't field an efficient passing game. Then they go back to the old reliable run game and forget about all that silly forward pass nonsense

Can you give me examples of them trying this vs cupcakes?

At this point I really don't know what I would do if I was Miles. You come out and throw it 20 times in the first half and you're in a dogfight at halftime and people will lose their mind. You come out and throw it 7 times in the first half and you're up by 28 at halftime people will lose their mind.

So we can win by 14 and you can whine about play calling? I'll pass.....no pun intended

No offense, but I don't think you realize that JSU isn't some team that you can run the ball all over and win big. We'll have to pass the ball. Also with Fournette out, how do you see the offense going?

Will we run Guice and Williams into 8-9 man fronts, or will we try to open up the passing game?

Will we try to become creative on offense, or will we just line up in tight formation and play "smashmouth"?

It's not the passing, it's the passing formations. It doesn't matter if we pass 100 times if we don't change the scheme.

we SHOULDN'T have a problem with running the ball, practice the passing game HEAVILY in this game My 2 cents

Thank you! My opinion as well.

This was what pissed me off last season. We wasted all out our OOC games with out working on the passing game and when we needed it and LF needed it to get the heat off his arse it wasn't there.

We'll throw the ball about 16 times. Half of them will be slow developing play actions out of the I-formation. This is what Les calls "opening up the offense". Harris will have over 200 yards passing and the sunshine pumpers will start calling us "idiots" and claim the Mad Hatter is back.

Should happen but won't. I bet they don't get 50 passes thrown in jax St and miss state.

I recall they tried some vs EMU and Syr and it went badly. Mostly drops.
Game reps are way overblown. Flynn destroyed Miami with very few previous attempts scattered here and there.

So you're completely cool with losing as long as they throw the ball 40-50 times.

What team has won a national championship by throwing the ball that much???

Guys you are missing the point. They are not suggesting that throwing that much becomes LSU's offense. They are suggesting that live round practice of the passing game will help the passing offense. And it is better to do it in bunches now, than have to do it when we fall behind the good teams trying to catch up. I agree. I also believe you give you backup QB and receivers time as well to prepare for the chance you might need them later in the year. And Les has proven he can develop an excellent running game. That is not an issue.

Whatever success they have passing, it will be forgotten by the time SEC play arrives.

I agree. Our receivers usually have no problem with secondaries from schools such as JSU. Knowing Miles, he will find a way to keep the game close in the first half. Would love to see it over by halftime with good production through the air to boost Harris' confidence, but we all know that is too good to be true.

No they are not. Have you ever played college sports? It is much different practicing before basically no one but your coaches and team, and playing before 100,000+ plus people. Much different. There are some great practice players who freeze up before a large crowd. It's like the difference between practicing with blanks and practicing with live rounds being fired. Anything you do is more difficult to do with 100,000+ watching. That is until you finally get used to it. That's why practicing during a game, if you can afford to, is priceless because you cannot simulate it in practice.
