Good news for Arkansas negotiations w/ Bielema.

I mean, I guess if Iowa is happy with the job he is doing, more power to them. I just don't understand the length and money involved in another extension when he had one very good year after a decade of averaging 7 wins a season.
I realize Iowa doesn't have the same expectations as other programs, but how patient will their fans be if they regress back to another stretch of 7 wins being the norm?

I think this is just an example of a fan base that has appropriate expectations for their program. ULL fans should take note.

Wrong coach gets in there and they could go 20 plus seasons without a winning record again too. For Iowa, averaging 7 to 8 wins a season is pretty good if you throw in the occasional 11-2 type season and contend for the B1G championship.

there has to be some sort of buyout clause that stipulates he doesn't get several of those last few years b/c otherwise it makes zero sense to extend him for that long considering he was well on his way to getting fired until he pulled last year out of his butt.

Recruiting at Iowa is nigh impossible. Brad Banks ain't walkin through that door every year.

Andy Reid might be the better analogy. A few bad years and a few "almost" years.

i understand the extensions, but the money is outrageous for the results he puts out. The worst thing they could have done was give him a raise after those good years

I think that argument is overrated. There are no skill players in Kansas and Nebraska, but Tom Osborne built a dynasty and Bill Snyder competed for national championships at his peak with a garbage program.

Snyder has the KS JC's and Osborne had roids

so you're argument is to pick 2 of the best coaches in CFB as a random sample of replacements for KF?
look at what has happened to both WITHOUT those guys and you see the risk in the hearts of Iowa fans

And a county scholarship program that basically allowed them to not use their 25 a year on in-state guys. Plus a massive walkon program. All of that was fading away when Solich stepped in.

And Ferentz has the Western half of the Big Ten, which is the AFC South of college football.

Well, they are two adjacent states with similar talent bases.
Kirk Ferentz is basically Glen Mason with a couple of BCS appearances. Does that work?
Posted on 9/6/16 at 1:20 pm to Cap Crunch
One of Kirk's official duties must be negotiating his contract with himself. How does this keep happening?
Posted on 9/6/16 at 1:21 pm to Cap Crunch
He's going to start checking out on the front end of that contract. Unless you're Saban that is way too long. One can't possibly stay sufficiently motivated on such a gravy train.

So basically a lot more successful Glen Mason?? Dumbest post of the year award.

It is frigging Iowa. Not exactly a football factory but they are exceeding expectations.
undefeated national champs the year before or after LSU did it in the 1950's.
they were tied in their opener vs Air Force and went undefeated in Big Ten play and won the Rose bowl and the mythical natty.
Air Force played TCU in the cotton and it was a low scoring tie. AF finished in the top 8 or so. also undefeated.
Air Force had an academic cheating scandal right after that (copies of the exam) and never tasted the top ten again.
