We are going to be staying at the little white house at the Tonkawaya Ranch. We are looking at the wine tours and possibly the cellar rat wine tours on the 3rd and the 290 wine shuttle on the 4th. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Becker is really nice and I believe that weekend they are having their "grape stomp". Right by Becker is Fat arse Ranch and Winery. I've heard it was a pretty cool place to go. Also, if you're into bourbon, Garrison Brothers is in that area also.

We just came back from there. We did 290 Wine Tours, you pay $25 a person and they bring you to as many wineries as you want. It's just a shuttle really but I found it to be a better value and I got to choose where to go. As for wineries, I liked fat arse.

To my wife and I, Garrison Bros was the best bourbon tour we've been on. very casual, yet very informative. They produce a fine bottle of bourbon to boot. Go early before the tour because they have wine and beer from the area to sample. You pay for those based on the honor system. Very cool place.

Don't do wine tastings. It is a rip off. Look for a bottle you think you will like and buy it, it will be a better deal.
Bring a cooler with sandwhich meats, summer sausage, cheese and other snacks. (crackers, waters, etc.) You will thank me later. Places like Becker have outdoor seating where you can drink a bottle and eat a picnic lunch.
Other recs: William Chris, pedernales cellars, lewis wine
Hill Country TX Vineyards

We always enjoy dinner at Hill Top Café outside of town on Highway 87. Always worth the drive.

Thanks for all the suggestions we are excited to go. Anything else in the area restaurant wise we should be looking?

I had a blast at Luchenbach. Billy Jos Shaver was playing so that's tough to beat.

Hit up the bar in Fredericksburg that right off the Main Street. Nothing but OT 8's 21-25 are there for bachelorette parties.

That's about the dumbest shite I have read in a long time.
Of course wine tastings are not as good of a "deal" as a bottle but the entire point is to taste multiple wines, some that you would NEVER BUY BY THE BOTTLE otherwise.

And what does it mean to "look for a bottle you think you will like" anyway? Find a cool looking label?

We are going to be doing the cellar rat wine tour with the wine and food pairings on September 3rd. I'll let you know how it is. On the 4th I was planning on just paying the $25 pp and riding the 290 wine shuttle and hopping on and off because at that point we would have a better idea of what is going on in the area.

I really enjoy Navajo Grill. And the Fredericksburg Brewery, which is our default lunch spot.

You probably wont have time, but I love hiking Enchanted Rock when I'm in Fredericksburg. It's really beautiful and not a hard climb at all.

You don't really get the point of visiting wineries, do you?
I will agree that if you visit the area often and/or really wanted a low key chill day, bringing a picnic and hanging out somewhere like Becker can be a good time.

LOVE William Chris. I joined the wine club. Pedernales was a nice tour vs just a tasting room, but I personally did not enjoy their wines and even dump a couple out.
I haven't been to Grape Greek yet but have hear great things.
Cabernet Grill is good. Make reservations ahead of time.

It just depends on your preference. I really only enjoy red wines so id much rather buy a 25 dollar bottle of something they recommend and get to enjoy a few glasses while watching bachelorettes fall out of the buses.

Great entertainment every weekend it seems. Sometimes with a small group we will give background stories, make assumptions about family/groom. Debauchery that will occur at wedding. Divorce chances. Etc. Can be very fun.
