Did lightning kill my ethernet cable?

So I have my living room tv hard wired for ethernet...and it was a pain in the arse tbh. But it's been a wonderful thing.
I come home today and the tv will not connect, but every other device in the house is working, including my hard wired desktop and laptop plugged in to the same port as I had the TV.
We've had crazy lightning for the past few hours, and the power had been out at some point.
Could that fry my fairly new ethernet cable?

Or maybe my tv ethernet port went bad? Anyone ever had that happen?

I doubt the cable is bad, but I guess it's possible.
Move that cable to a different output port on your router/switch if that works it's a router issue. Try hooking something like a laptop to the cable that that would normally supply the tv, if it works it's problem with the tv. if neither work it's an Ethernet cable problem.

More than likely it's the tv port. Lightning can zap it for sure.

If it damaged the cable there will be evidence. Look at the cable.

Lightning sucks for network ports. That is the first thing to go. Sucks that it is on a device you can't just swap it out easily.

Not likely but possible. If it did, it would be obvious. More likely the port on your set is fried. Plug the cable thats in the TV port into your laptop and see if you can ping your router or just reach the internet.
I have seen lightning affect a network cable once. It was the main Cat5 run from a comm building in an overhead tray outside to the operators building. Direct strike on either the cable tray or the radio tower. It was a gel filled cable and the evidence of the strike was pretty clear, the gel had been liquefied and expelled out of each end of the cable. Then network card on the first computer tied to the system and a router were fried. The computer card/cable end actually had black scorch marks.

Cables go bad all the time; that said, you usually see that in large scale deployments (like a corporate office) where the cable is being abused.
It CAN be damaged in that manner, but surges RARELY travel on network lines. Unless you're using PoE (which if you are in your house... WHY????), the situations for that to happen would be incredibly rare.

So...
the cable shows no signs of damage. I tried different ports on the Modem, and i also plugged in my laptop to that same cable, and it doesnt work either.
So it seems the cable is definitely bad. But i guess the TV port could be bad too? I think i have another ethernet cable long enough to test the TV port. Will do that tonight.
Since i ran the cable to the TV, i've gotten a new gateway modem, which is obviously stronger than the old one, because the TV is working pretty well on WIFI. But it sure is nice to be hardwired and never have to worry about signal.

I guess its possible that something else caused the ethernet issue besides lightning. Its running through 2 walls and the attic, so maybe a mouse or something.
i've never had mice though. Just a strange situation.
