How sad is it that a 3 loss team is considered one of the schools greatest in its 120 year history?

Not really... For THIS program, YES.. But look at all the schools over history and there are quite a few who would take A 3 loss season....

I've always considered that Tulane loss LSU's worst loss. We had a dominant defense and a very good offense. It rained all game and they just flat out wanted it more than we did. We were by far the better team but lost. It hurt almost as bad as the NCG following 2011. That was a very talented, good team.

Was at the '82 Game

John Bond had LSU's number all 5 years we played him.

2 Louisiana boys: Tim Parenton, from NO, & Dana Moore, from BR were the holder & kicker.

Yep. That was a fun year. I was a student at LSU at the time. Then the next year the wheels came off for Jerry Stovall. How quickly things can change.
Me too. Arnsparger had a good run with Coach Stivall's talent. I can't remember New Orleans being recruited better than Stovall and Pete Jenkins did, including Frank Wilson.

Bama game was great because Coach Bryant said that they hadn't been whooped physically like that since the 60's and first mentioned retiring. Hopefully we can do the same to their latest God/Coach one day.

'82 was a really good team. I was at every home game and went to Miami to see the Orange Bowl. A wonderful and very memorable year. But, I must say that the FSU - LSU game that featured the fog rolling in, end zones covered in oranges, and a kick-arse victory, is one of my favorite games ever...

1982 was a remarkable season, considering the ineptitude of the '81 Tigers.

Alan Risher had a great year, and the addition of Hilliard and James boosted the running game from last in the SEC to near the top.

How a team that could rout Florida St., and soundly beat Alabama and Florida, and lead NEBRASKA for 3 1/2 quarters could lose to TULANE will forever remain a mystery. Reggie Reginelli wasn't a world class QB.

At least one wire service poll showed 1962 as a national championship team (first year of McClendon).

I went to that Tulane game with my Dad and Grandfather when I was 9. Such a shitty game.

But a good team.

Imagine if we lost a game like that now. This place would implode.

Yes, John Bond really only played 4; although I'm sure it seemed longer to many LSU fans...

Thus the rolleyes in my OP.

I was at every game except UF. The Bear freaked out after LSU put the worse beating on bama in a long time.

FSU was the fog/orange game. That was a wild night!

MSU had players in the street celebrating with fights
breaking out everywhere outside the stadium. They kicked a last second fg to win.

My only Orange bowl. Snuck into the press conference and was thrown out by a State trooper.

Lawrence Williams was a beast at ILB, He and Al Richardson led the team in tackles that year I believe...
