The ending is the best part.
It's a book end from the voice over at the beginning. His dream is that his father left him in the cold and dark and went ahead and will be waiting for him. He's depressed at what the world has become where villains aren't captured. Where there is no justice. He's done.
I'm depressed this had to be explained to you.

Or if you're referring to Carla Jeans fate, all the answers are there.

This movie is an absolute masterpiece. I certainly didn't think that it was a "slow-speed chase". I am on the edge of my seat the entire time each time I watch it. I love everything about this movie. The characters, the actors chosen to play them, the setting (1970's West Texas was perfect for this), the dialogue, the ending. Everything.

Its a McCarthy book that was adapted perfectly. NO SEQUELS. That is some lame arse studio bullcrap. Not meant for great books translated into great movies. How about: Lord Of The Flies II: The Voyage Home.

I was a little confused at the end, probably because I wasn't paying too much to the little speech. I've got no problem with the "bad" guy winning, but I wasn't expecting to end as abruptly as it did.

Movie was boring as hell. Put me to sleep, just like there will be blood.

If anyone wants to know what happens to someone IRL who gets hit with chigurgh's bolt pistol ...

Tommy Lee Jones' last scene as the Sheriff explains it all.
He basically says there will always be incomprehensible criminals like Anton Chigurh's and peacekeepers like him and his father. TLJ grew up in an era when there was just "right vs wrong".
But he has a dream where he and his father are both sheriffs and TLJ is older than his father in the dream. His eager father wouldn't hesitate to take on bizarre criminals, but TLJ being so close to retirement doesn't want to go all in with his chips where he's likely to lose it all, thus the bad guys will always get away if he hesitates. So he accepts there's no country for old men.
Kind of a nihilistic answer, but the ending is explained in the movie just before the actual ending.

It blows my mind that there are people who don't like the ending. I sometimes watch it on youtube just by itself because it was so perfect.

Once again bought into the hype, only to be disappointed. I really didn't like this movie.
