Are you suggesting people with down syndrome think they're a burden?

this
so much this
when me and my wife decided to have a child, we accepted that risk that the child may be born unhealthy, just as we accept that risk everyday now that she may have an accident or come down with a disease after having lived a completely healthy 3 years

A truly haunting decision to have to face. As a parent of a 7 year old I think it would be great to have a 7-10 year old kid pretty much forever. They're a lot of fun. Most Down Syndrome people I've run across at places nice enough to employ them were amusing.
Thinking further about it. When my wife and I die that kid(now an adult) has been abandoned. Will probably die lonely and alone in some institution.
I don't think I could abort it. Although I can understand why people would.

You are aware that abortion is legal within the current laws and that your religion is irrelevant to that, right?

Yeah. If you go to the public events you will encounter the high functioning healthy disabled people.
Try some medical wards or nursing homes where you have someone who is 40 years old with Alzheimer's and a feeding tube and has never learned to toilet and can't speak.
Maybe some people would say that's a fluffy bunny happy scene but I'm not the one who is going to tell the parents that they are going to force them to have a child if they don't want to.
A weekend at a disabled fair is nothing compared to a 70 year old woman changing the diapers of a 250 pound 45 year old daughter with Down syndrome. And that's a real story.
They sadly probably didn't make it to your awesome little fair.
You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Good for you exercising your freedom of choice. I would exercise mine as well and abort if I see fit.

Great post Darth. I just could not see myself doing that. It's not the babies fault and parents just need to step up and take care of the child.

My wife and I lost a DS child as a stillbirth during pregnancy. I still think about him all the time and wish he was here.

I replied before you edited, but the point remains.

the "freedom of choice" argument is a really weak argument when it comes to abortion

my obeying the law comment was in response to him bringing up my views on pot use.

I think DS is the toughest one to answer for most people. These never abortion people, what about the doctor tells you the baby 100% has no chance of survival more than a few months and those months will be pure hell on the baby physically? There are diseases out there they can pinpoint on early ultrasounds. Would your answer change? Just a simple discussing point
