The Trolly Problem and The Fat Man - What would you do?

The Trolley Problem:
There is a runaway trolley barreling down the railway tracks. Ahead, on the tracks, there are five people tied up and unable to move. The trolley is headed straight for them. You are standing some distance off in the train yard, next to a lever. If you pull this lever, the trolley will switch to a different set of tracks. However, you notice that there is one person on the side track. You have two options:
1. Do nothing, and the trolley kills the five people on the main track.
2. Pull the lever, diverting the trolley onto the side track where it will kill one person.
The Fat Man:
As before, a trolley is hurtling down a track towards five people. You are on a bridge under which it will pass, and you can stop it by putting something very heavy in front of it. As it happens, there is a very fat man next to you – your only way to stop the trolley is to push him over the bridge and onto the track, killing him to save five. Should you proceed?

Do nothing, both cases.
Considering the realism that is five people being randomly tied up on a railway track, I must assume that it is possibly a death sentence being carried out for 5 criminals.
The individual can reasonably assumed to be innocent.

Thought this was gonna be about Gary Chambers calling the BR trolley racist

It still could be. If the fat man in the second question was Gary Chambers, how would it affect your answer?

first case, divert and yell to get the person off the tracks.
In the second scenario I would do nothing.
I can see saving someone and in the process leading to the death of someone else. I can't see intentionally sacrificing someone else against their will in an attempt to save others.

Unfortunately, I'd probably be charged with a hate crime if I threw that fatass over the side so I'd let him live.
Rule #1 - I'm #1

I cannot wait until our cars are making this decision.
I, for one, welcome our new robot overlords.

I would grab a beer. The world has too many people as it is.

1. Pull the lever
2. Do nothing...because pushing him is murder

One act makes me a murderer. The other makes me a spectator.
Can I get the ages, sex and ethnicity of each of the 5?

It's the same damn question.
If it makes you feel better that you are one degree away [the lever hypo] from killing a person, you don't have the balls to do what is necessary anyway.

Kill the one person if I don't know him.
If I know him, and like him, let the rest die.

Shoot his arse first then push him on the tracks

It's the same damn question.
That one degree of separation makes a massive difference in some minds.
Look at the other poster who said that one makes him a spectator while the other makes him a murderer.
It alters the dynamics.

Intriguing situations
I think I'd take the plausible deniability route and say I didn't see anything... Tough call
