BREAKING: Nike announces it is ending its golf equipment business. No more clubs, balls or bags. Business just way to challenging.

Tiger to Nike shareholders:
You're welcome.

Not enough young golfers to appeal to.
Old white guys already have their equipment preferences locked in.

Maybe Rory can get a putter that works now

Guys who i know that played golf, always claimed, that their equipment was always inferior to the others, and Tiger proved, by winning with their shite clubs, how good he really was, during his run.
Truth? Or just Ping,Titalist,Cobra,etc fanboys?

So, I guess he's back on the equipment market then?
Here comes the Rory comeback tour.........

The putter is the least of Rory's putting issues right now.

But they'll keep making the clothes, right?

Perhaps because rich golfers aren't young chumps who pay ridiculous prices for products like Air Jordans and Beats headphones.

Nike engineered his clubs to get similar test results to his old sticks.
Nike's exit is moreso about the ridiculous contracts they had with Tiger/Rors/Wie, etc. As a golf club manufacturer you need to stick to a specific strength (i.e Adams w/ Hyrbird, Cleveland with wedges, etc.).
The game is too broad to appeal to everyone unless you just make a better product, which is almost impossible now with so much data available. The only exception is golf balls and Titleist with Pro-V1, but that isn't a guaranteed share forever.

FWIW I couldn't stand their clubs. Balls were ok, but overpriced.
Top guys like Rory and Tiger just played whatever clubs they wanted and Nike would put their logo on the mold.
Tiger played those Titleist irons basically with Nike's logo on it.

Beat me to it
Its widely known that those were not Nike engineering.

This is slowly disappearing. They have smaller companies making balls half as expensive that are really solid. Hell, I think these new Bridgestone balls are getting close to Pro V level...and I'm a Pro V homer.

Their equipment got better as time went on, but it's still not very popular, and their club styling has become kind of odd. It's always been pretty expensive for their target audience as well.
I've hit everything they've made in the last 8 years or so, and everything since the Covert stuff came out has been very solid. Their current Vapor series irons have all been very good IMO, but I couldn't see myself actually buying them.

Yeah I can see it ending too. Golf companies like Snell Golf are making good inroads too against this monopoly. They can create pretty much the same ball and sell it for 40% less.
If the tour players keep playing Pro Vs they'll still dominate tho.

Didn't Miura actually forge those for Nike?

Has being a man-whore ever cost so much to so many? He could have been Magic Johnson or Jeter or Walt Chamberlain.
His conquests would have been celebrated. His sponsors would have been different, but he'd have still had them.

If he was still winning he'd have all of his sponsors back and more...
