Doesn't do much good for home defense if you have to retrieve it from a safe and load it first.

I'm pretty certain I had hands in training in firearms safety by the time I was 9. Locking up your guns is a great idea (aside from a well placed home defense weapon). But doing so instead of training your kids is irresponsible at best.

I'd like to know how many of yall's homes have been invaded, ever. Are you actually that afraid?

My kids know not to touch my guns. I don't keep them in places where they can easily reach them, but they wouldn't bother them anyway. Hell, my 4 year old knows better

You guys are assuming the kid WASN'T taught about gun safety.

I agree a well placed home defense weapon that is well hidden from kids is best.

But if you are a collector/enthusiast with young kids, you should probably consider locking them in a safe.

I grew up with guns. I shot my first deer at 6 years old. Dad didn't tell me where the key to the gun cabinet was until I was 10 or 12 or something.

Even if your kid is well versed on gun safety and can recite word for word the safety rules on the back of a shotgun shell box, they shouldn't have free access to the guns.

That's just my opinion.

My house in Orleans Parish was broken into twice. Alarm going off, once was at 7pm. Fortunately for the suspect, I wasn't home. Afraid isn't the word I would use.
