Tyrann Mathieu Contract Extension

Just saw on ESPN where he signed a long term extension with the Cardinals for 62.5 million with 40 guaranteed. I knew he was very talented but didn't know whether he would ever be able to get his life on track. Haven't kept up with him since he left college but evidently he has everything headed in the right direction now. What's the backstory here?

He is now the consensus best safety in the NFL.

He's been nothing but professional since being drafted. It also doesn't hurt that he was voted as a top 20 overall player in the league going into the year.

He was a Defensive MVP candidate last year before his injury.

He was never a bad kid. Just caught up with the wrong people. Great person, great MAN these days, and one helluva football player!!!

Good to hear. There's so much focus on players who did well in college but weren't able to do much in the pros for various reasons so it is good to see someone in his situation get into the pros and excel.

Let's be real y'all, the worst thing he ever got caught doing was smoking too much pot. I never thought of him as a thug or a loser. I never had any lack of confidence that he would end up being successful.

Really awesome to see him turn it around. I feel like that's rare now.
If only that 2012 team could have had him on the field....

For comparison...Patrick Peterson got $70M, $48M guaranteed.

Back story, He is the american success story of our decade. From nothing and very humble beginnings with about 0% chance to succeed to riches and fame! I really like that story, even more so that i know he was an LSU hero.
