re: Why is NASCAR the biggest motorsport in the US?

MotoGP dwarfs just about everything globally. NASCAR rules in the US because, well....rednecks and 'Murica. But MotoGP draws 200+ million tv viewers in over 80 countries. It just isn't bigger in the US because our national series has gone to shite and developmental youth racing is virtually non-existent, so there is little cultivated interest for the global series. I wish there were more MotoGP fans here so we could have good threads on this board during the season. My gameroom is filled with MX and roadracing memorabilia, including a signed Marco Simoncelli team short. MotoGP is my #1 sport - though LSU football is close.

NASCAR seems to offer more side by side racing.
F1 (especially on the road courses) seems like follow the leader.
I don't like the road courses in NASCAR either, but there seems to be fewer of them.

Yep just 2. Sonoma and Watkins Glen. Didn't like them at first, but I enjoy them now.

Road Courses are my favorite Nascar events. Gives bad teams with a good driver a chance for wins.

I think you can pinpoint it to their 1st nation wide broadcast of the Daytona 500 that ended with the Allison's and Carl Yarborough fighting.

NHRA events are so much more fun!

The people that respond like you are more ignorant than any uneducated redneck I ever met. Truly y'all are stupid people.
Nascar has reached levels unmatched by other motorsports because it has reached out to places and people that are not their base. Chicago, Kansas, Cal, Nevada, etc. It has become more of a wine and cheese crowd at certain tracks more than redneck crowds.
But because of the stupid Chase nonsense, I've lost interest. It's a joke, but at least Nascar attempts to appeal to many people where other motorsports don't even try and why they suck.

175 million of those are Valentino Rossi fans.
