Miles was talking to Michigan about the Job. The Problem is the LSU deal was better. If Michigan would have offered him a similar package he'd be coming to Michigan. He did Michigan and himself a favor by saying he was assisting them in their search.
Bill Martin never wanted Miles. Miles was his Third Choice. He offered the Job to Kirk Ferntz and Greg Schiano before he even talk to Miles.
The Fans and former players wanted Miles.
Congrats on keeping your coach. He's a great coach and I would ahve loved to see him on the side lines in the big house.
Good luck agaisnt OSU.

Sorry, but I give Coach Miles a little bit more credit than you imply here. He is not in Saban, and now, Petrino's, class. If it was money, actually look at his new contract vs his old one. All the bonuses he is in line for now were built into his old one. His actual yearly earnings did not go up that much. He did receive extra years of earnings, but that is not a big deal when you look at Saban money.

I'm sure the call from the President and Martin was about the job. No doubt Les listened out of courtesy. Anybody who wouldn't isn't destined to last long, or rise high, in any business. I've had plenty of folks want to talk to me about making a change over the course of my career, and, out of respect (and occasionally curiosity) I've sat and listened to a number of them. I've only made one move based on those conversations, but I've made a number of friends and new clients. You can have a conversation, be polite, develop relationships, and never intend to make a move. And who knows, Mary Sue Coleman might be the President of Southern Cal someday, and Les might....

Don't kid yourself. I also happen to believe that Les and Michigan were talking turkey (probably through intermediaries on both sides) but I don't believe that the LSU "package" was better (if by that you mean salary and other contract terms. I think Les became convinced that the house at Michigan would be divided between pro-Les and pro-Lloyd camps, and that was a no-win situation.
If by the "package" you are including the presence of Lloyd and co. in the athletic department, then I agree that the LSU package was better.
Thus for me the sign about whether Les-to-Michigan scenario could ever happen is not whether Les and UM have contact, but whether Lloyd and his cronies are shown the door. Since that cannot possibly happen between now and signing day (given that Lloyd and his staff are coaching the bowl game), I don't see Les going.

Well put.

Pretty much that is what I thought BUT I think there was an offer and Les just stood by his guns!!
I think he know he has it VERY good here and can do good things for a very long time.
I think if Mich has given him the same type of money he still would have said no...
JMO...Like everyone else!

It's surprising how many folks will lie to themselves. If it's not about the money, why is Les in BR? You think winning and wearing Purple and Gold makes coaches honest?

You can believe what you want but the people On Scout.com who have inside sources have been talking about this second attempt at miles since last week after Schiano turned Michigan Down. Yesterdays "leak" ended it. LSU pushed Miles to make another statements yesterday confirming he had no interest. It was easy becuase he could come to an agreement over the weekend.
Look Miles has openly lobbied for the Michigan Job this entire season. If you want to call me names or think otherwise go right ahead. But if Miles could have gotten what he wanted from Michigan he'd be there. Martin was never going to give him what he wanted so he's at LSU. Is that a Knock on LSU no. You have a great school and a great tradition. Miles has always dreamed of being the next BO. Without BO there is no les miles coaching at LSU. Les is BO in my opinion!!! That's why you guys are lucky to have him!!!

Why?
You lie to yourself in almost every post you've made on TD.com. You think Miles sucks, yet he has the best winning percentage of any coach LSU Football coach in your lifetime. You lie to yourself evertime you start yacking about how many other coaches could have done the same thing with "All that talent".

I don't even have a slef....but if I did, I wouldn't kid it about Les Miles!
And Les is LES(aka THE HAT) to us...so if you want Bo, you'll just have to stay in the storied past, sorry! Maybe you can talk to the Bammers about how to keep 'em coaching after they are dead and buried. They seem to have that market cornered right now.

hey seenutz: forget about football! The govt has hid the fact that aliens live amongst us for years now. There won't be a 2008 football season because the aliens will eliminate humanity from the earth this coming summer as they need our resources to survive!

Seenutz, I agree with you. I think that they did talk about the job when they supposedly had a converstion this weekend. There is no way that Les just talked about assisting them. They is a load of bull crap. I don't care what Les Miles statement said yesterday.
Maybe they even talked about a deal that won't be released until after the BCSNCG. We won't ever know until either after the BCSNCG or after Michigan hires another coach. Until then I will always think Miles to Michigan is highly likely to happen. To many strong ties. If you think other wise I think you are kidding yourself (that's to all LSU Fans)

He it is in a nutshell. Miles wants to be a winner. UM had a chance to have a winner and decided that they were not willing to do what it takes to be a winner. UM will be left with some obscure coach that is probably a cood. somewhere right now and in 3-4 yrs when ya'll dump him, Miles may be ready to try to turn a loser into a winner.
