Thoughts on the FN 15 Tactical .300 BLK

Looking to purchase my first AR... I want something with good quality that I won't have very many issues with... I have thought about having a friend build one from OB recommended parts, but I have come to the conclusion I don't trust a weekend warrior to build my gun
I have done research on the .300 BLK rounds, and I am pretty impressed with its ability and the choices it provides... i.e. super and subsonic
I feel I have narrowed my choice to this gun, so any and all imput from the OB AR gurus on the make and caliber would be greatly appreciated!

If you go .300blk, you really should go SBR with supressor.

That's my thought... 9" barrel?

Suppressor is a no brainer..barrel is subjective

Ya, I am looking for a quality suppressor as well... I've seen videos where it's almost dead quiet when firing... to the point of no hearing protection required

OSHA's cutoff for impulse noise is 140dB, most suppressors take it down below this.
Constant exposure to over 80-85dB can damage your ears, I don't know of a suppressor that takes the noise this low. Cycling of the action alone is probably over 100dB on most guns.
So, if you're sitting in the deer stand about to take one shot you're probably good without earpro. At the range dumping mags you probably want some muffs or plugs.

Diminished returns on .300blk compared to 5.56 in barrel length. You don't gain much by going 14.5 or 16 over 9.5.

not for 300blk. absolutely no reason to have a barrel over 9"

FN actually supplies M16s and M4s for our military. If anyone can make a quality product, it's FN.
I only own an FNS9 handgun though so I can't give my full take on their rifles.

They also build M240B/G and MK19s. M249s as well.
Browning shotguns and some Winchester rifles.
FN builds some mighty fine firearms.

This was my exact line of thinking
So I guess all in all this is a good purchase?

Ya. It's just that not SBRing a .300blk and suppressing it kinda defeats the purpose of the cartridge.

What will you do with the rifle? If you will be making decent distance shots, for a .300BLK, subsonic may not be a good choice. I've only hog hunted with mine though since I've had it and not personally shot any subsonic so take what I say very lightly.

You shouldn't hunt with subs (I guess pigs really don't matter, more suffering the better, eh?). 110-125 grain and it's got plenty of punch out to 100yds.
