1 hit wonders?
They had at least 5-6 good songs besides Whip it.
Grossly underrated, and on Planet gelflong 6, they are worshiped as gods.

You know them, but it's not like they were hits.

We are not men. We are devo!
I don't know a ton of their stuff, but all the stuff they play on first wave and classic college radio (rip) was damn good.

On girl you want video, go to 2:40 mark, this actor looked like a d-bag as a teenie bopper also.

I said it before in another thread but the definition of what is or is not a “one hit wonder” band or artist has gotten completely lost. The name was coined to refer to an artist making one song that became an unexpected hit and then they more or less fell off the radar altogether. That’s where the “wonder” part comes in. A band with a long notable career may have only one well-known song but that’s not a “wonder” at all; they put out a lot of great music and only one song happened to fit the mold of a chart hit. By contrast, the “wonder” thing references that no long hard road had to be slogged in order to become a hit-making artist. It kind of came out of nowhere.
My example was that some dumbasses bring up Thin Lizzy for that category. Some people just don’t know what they’re talking about.

Part of Devo's problem is they were a novelty act by presentation. Considering the fact that Casale and Lewis cited the Kent State shootings as a major event leading to their formation of the band 3 years later, one must admit that they did not appear serious.
Mark Mothersborough had a decent career doing film, television and video game soundtracks, including scoring the early Wes Anderson feature films.

Because they had 1 hit.

They may have been good in your opinion, but they weren't hits.

Uncontrollable Urge is my favorite song of theirs. Long before stupid Rob Dyrdek hijacked it.

I'm a big fan of Devo, and rank their cover of Satisfaction as one of the greatest cover songs ever, but they are widely considered a one-hit wonder because they only had one hit. It's a lot like Dexy's Midnight Runners, who were an incredibly influential act, but known to most as the Come On Eileen guys.

It is an outstanding cover. What is brilliant about their covers is that they remade the songs in the Devo way, rather than adopt to the style of the original song. To me, that can be dangerous (Mariah Carey's cover of Bringin' on the Heartbreak - just awful) or brilliant, (Hendrix's Watchtower or, the aforementioned Devo's Satisfaction).
Some covers can stay close to the original and be outstanding as well (Disturbed's Sound of Silence, The Blues Brothers Soul Man) - but that's the safe approach, IMHO. Most covers hit somewhat in between, and some of these can be truly great as well (Aretha's Let it Be, Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah).
But, Devo going the risky route with Satisfaction results in a great cover, probably underrated because we don't see it supported in our semiregular great cover threads. I watch Casino all the time, and Marty uses it to great effect.
Devo's Working in a Coal mine (a more close to the original cover, IMHO) is also excellent.

Both Devo and Blondie have toured recently. How can you be posting if you're not alive?

I watched Rushmore again a couple of weeks ago and liked the soundtrack enough to look up Mark Mothersborough on Wiki. He wrote some really good stuff for that movie. It surprised me because I'd always considered Devo to be somewhat of a joke but he's seriously talented.

I loved their version of Working in a Coal Mine. That being said, Beautiful World was always my favorite Devo song.
