This film is such a good time. Both Sam Neil and the kid knock it out of the park. This movie and Sing Street are easily the best feel good movies so far this year.

Review...
Before the movie we were told this was the highest grossing film to come out of New Zealand and were very lucky because we were one of a handful of theaters to see it. Either this was the second film to come out of NZ or NZ films arent very good. Good story, great scenery, bad music, terrible flow, terrible/bizarre movie. How this got such rave reviews is beyond me. The "American" jokes were tiring and there just wasn't much humor in it. I felt Sam Neil never came out of character and the kid wasn't that funny. I had high hopes for this one.
I'm curious what others thought.

I saw it yesterday with no expectations going in. The only thing I knew about it was that Rhys Darby was in it and that Taika Waititi directed it. I enjoyed the hell out of it. It was a little cheesy at times, but I thought it was funny and had some touching moments.
I would recommend people see it.

enjoyable romp with some goofy moments, but sincere throughout. I enjoyed it more than the hit you on the head preachiness of Captain Fantastic.
And i thought the music at times was great.
No SING STREET, but certainly worth a viewing in the sea of mediocrity at the local cineplex.

Really enjoyed this movie. Cinematography and music were great. Loved the kid actor. The trailer ruined most of the funny parts unfortunately, but still found myself chuckling throughout.
