No problem with his punishment but I thought rape convictions were 7-9 years at max?

The fact that Penn State, reeling from an institutional pedophile scandal and cover up, went out and hired the coach who presided over the rape scandal at Vanderbilt is like an Onion article. Still blows my mind.

Safe to say his football career is over.

Why did the judge declare mistrials in the first trials?

Right?

I'm honestly curious. I've never heard 7-9 years max for rape in my entire life.

You know there are degrees of rape, so the statement was kind of silly to begin with.

The most minor rape offense in LA is max 25 years.

Southern states are pretty hardcore when it comes to aggravated rape charges. States like California on the other hand has a maximum of 8 years for rape, but more can "be added" if it's an aggravated charge. It's left vague as hell and from what I can tell there's no minimum.

Or you could just be a swimmer with a judge that is a booster for your schools athletics

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to bring this into the conversation.

I honestly didn't believe you. Went and looked it up myself and you are correct. 8 years for rape is crazy.

It's not just that though. California has eased the blow of rape and sexual assault charges all together.

Something else that's kind of crazy is that only 27 states waive statue of limitations on felony rape/forcible rape. Louisiana seems to be the exception vs. the norm with this as well as hard as they punish sex offenders.
