Please, do enlighten me.

I really want to know what he's done to get everyone so hyped.

Sucked up space at 320+ lbs while having the ability to move and move players in front of him.

It's one of the rarest skillsets in football. A big, strong, athletic NT is game changing for defenses.

At 320 lbs, he's at worst got the ability to eat of space in running situations. There aren't that many teams that have a guy capable of handling that combination of weight and strength one on one.

It really clears things up for the linebacker, even when the type of player can't penetrate. When that type of player can penetrate, you get some of the best defenses ever.

So you've seen him play? What is his technique like? He's got a good base and plays through his hips? Does he shed blocks well?

He could be very helpful, yes, but not the key.
The key is and has always been the OL

Already said that

He plays surprisingly low for his size and flat out moves centers and guards 1 on 1. It's impressive. When you watch his HS film, he's able to get under much shorter players than him as well.

When he did seem to get fatigued and played higher, he's still near impossible to move at his weight.

Let's just say he was clearly the winner vs Pocic, especially in 1-1 drills. Just too much too handle. His biggest ? Will be conditioning

He was the real deal and one of the most impressive freshman I've seen at a practice. I used to go to a lot of them, but have moved away since .

What has he proven though?

That through only watching him in practices the coaches are desperate enough to take a guy back who failed out of here already and has had issues since that he's a key to the season.

Not sure how you cant see that. When do we ever re-recruit JUCO kids who left the team (for any reason)? What did Fournette prove before his first year? What did Dupre prove before his first year? Why cant Valentine be similar to those guys and just be a uber talented guy in a perfect position we need help with?

Clearly they think despite all the issues surrounding Valentine the last few years he's good enough to take back which basically never happens here. There's obvious clue after obvious clue here. They dont waste their time with guys like this unless for a very, very good reason.

Agreed. Godchaux is a stud, and it is unfortunate that he might have to play NT where he will get dbl-teamed on almost every play, and it will wear him down by the 3d/4th qtr. Having him at DE in a 3/4 will be disruptive, along with Neal at the other DE.

I think it speaks volumes about our DL depth (or lack of play-makers), that requires Godchaux to play NG...

Valentine would help immensely, I hope Lawrence can provide some quality reps, and it is time for Gilmore to step up and be assertive from the NG/DT position. He was a top recruit when he arrived on campus, time to play like it!

The NT in Aranda's scheme isn't the same role as the NT in say Saban's 3-4. Aranda's is a gap-attacking NT, Saban's is a space eating NT.

Then why the past 2 years Coach O has made a point to recruit 315lbs plus defense Tackles?

No he's absolutely right there's a difference in the NT's responsibility in the 2 schemes, but Aranda's scheme STILL calls for a NT who has some bulk. No 3-4 want's a 290 pound NT.

There isn't a difference in gap scheme between Saban's and Aranda's. Both are 2 gap.

And I get what everyone is saying about the coaches wanting TV back and it never happening for other players. I just don't wanna get my hopes up.

There can be several keys. And I'm today's IT driven world, even your definition of key wouldn't imply that there couldn't be more than 1.

I think the freshman coming in will provide depth and they are trying to get the number ones set. No doubt that TV will be a huge addition. You have to think the reason he didn't light things up in JC was just lack of motivation. Looks like he's motivated now and maybe plays with a chip. With Aranda and BeBe coaching him up he'll be fine by the time we REALLY need him. With him in and Devon and Lac on the other sides who's running against that?? I can't wait to see what they look like. What will the D look like with this years #1 and #2 DTs wow!! I don't think that stops either. I hope we hold onto Aranda for at least 4 to 5 years Miles wins one or two more and hangs it up then Aranda takes over.

Can you imagine something similar happening at Alabama, a star player gets cleared by the NCAA but not the SEC office?

I really like both Godchaux and Neal. But besides the fact that's he's white, what do you have against the guy who started in front of both of them?

For NT? He's 6'5 ~305.

But it's more about having fresh players being constantly rotated in or having depth when the inevitable injury hits during a 12-13 game season with only 1 bye
